SOURCE: Wireless Linksys router won't reset to factory

There should be a tiny hole about the size of a pencil head either on the back or underneath the router. You will need a pen, pencil, or paperclip to press in the hole. That should reset the router.

I have a Linksys E2500 Router. I do not remember having a password, but apparently I do. How do I find it?

You actually may not have set up a password on the router. It comes from the factory with a default. The default username is left blank and the default password is "admin". If that doesn't work, then there is a different password on the unit. You can clear the password by doing a factory reset on the device, but then you will need to use the defaults to go back in a set up the device all over again. The external reset method is to press and hold the RESET button on the bottom or the back of the unit (it may be recessed into a small hole that you will need to use a paperclip on) for a minimum of ten seconds.

Reset linksy router b> One of the most common fixes for Internet connectivity often involves resetting the source of your Internet connection. If you have a DSL or cable Internet connection, you may use a Linksys router to get on the Internet. When you reset a Linksys router, you'll likely solve your connection problem.

Turn off the power to your computer's modem. Use the switch on your cable or DSL modem to disable it while you reset the Linksys router. Find the reset button your Linksys router. Most Linksys models have the reset option on the back of the router. Use a pointed pen or pencil to press in the reset button on your Linksys router. Hold down the reset button for approximately 30 seconds. Watch the lights on the front of the router. After you reset the router, power will get restored to the Linksys router. Once power's available, you can switch the modem back on. Reconfigure your router. After you reset your router, you'll have to log in and reconfigure your settings. The login name is typically left empty with your password as "admin."
Reset a Linksys Wireless Router b> You may need to reset your Linksys wireless router if you are having Internet connectivity issues or other networking problems. You can reset the router to the default factory settings, such as the default IP (Internet protocol) address, username and password. However, after you perform the factory reset, you can follow the initial setup instructions to replace your previous settings.

Write down any important settings you may have--such as the router's password--before you reset the router. Locate the reset button on the router. Some Linksys models have a reset button on the back side. Other Linksys models have a small pinhole you may need to access by using the tip of a pen or pencil. Press and hold the reset button for a minimum of 30 seconds to perform a factory reset on the Linksys router. The Linksys router should lose power. Power on the Linksys router to initiate the configuration wizard. Reconfigure any previous wireless settings on your Linksys router.

Hope this helps.

I have 2 extenders - both are doing this: when I reset them they go through the setup and tart to communicate with the PC then they freeze up and the screen goes blank. When I go to the PC it sees them but...

This problem has affected many Linksys DMA extender owners in the US and Australia since 4 November; European users are unaffected.

Cisco (owners of Linksys) took an update server offline which the Linksys tries to communicate with; when it can't reach it, it fails to startup correctly.

The solution is to block the Linksys from accessing the Internet, at least until Cisco get the server back online -- apparently they are working on this and it should be fixed soon.

There are a lot more details in this discussion thread on The Green Button and I've also written a blog entry with more details.

How can we watch netflix on our d link media center extender. when we have netflix movie playing on pc, it won't play on d link downstairs. the save link button shows up but just disappears when clicked on...

To the best of my knowledge Netflix will only work on the actual computer that it runs on and not an extender. The reason is that netflix uses internet streaming and Silverlight neither of which an extender can use.
