Re: external hard drive not openning
Good News, Your data is probably still safe. Go to best buy or online and buy a new cheap external usb case for your harddrive. you can find them for about 7-25 bucks. Make sure you get the right one for the hard drive in your lacie. Take the hard drive out of the lacie case and put it in the cheap case and you will have your data back. I had this happen to me before. If you need help just ask me... Hope this helps you

It sounds like it has failed. If there is anything important on there take it to a data recovery expert who will charge a lot of money to attempt recovery of information. otherwise put a sledgehammer through it and trash it.
i had the same problem. you have to be patient. open my computer through the start menu. unplug the hdd wait 15 secs and plug back in. if it still doesnt read try another port. and if it still doesnt work your hdd has a malfunction and you may need a new one
if its on a flash or C drive....... go to my computer open the folder with the movie(s).....go back to start my computer open the external hard drive (where you are going to put the movie)..... now copy and paste or click and drag from (flash or C) to external......what ever software you are using to download the movie(s) you can also change the download location to the external (now you will download directly to external)
Try connecting the Lacie to another computer, if it doesn't work then the hard disk may need to be formatted using Disk Manager. I suggest you format as a primary partition in FAT32.
If it doesn't work then it is possible that the hard drive in the Lacie has failed. To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty. You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.
