Sounds like the water seal in front of the drum bearings has failed causing grease from the bearings to get into the washtub this is usually accompanied by noisy spin cycle and rumbling noises from the drum when it is turning

My washing has yellow stains on white items especially around collars and cuffs Also bed linen

Since I do not know the style or type I may not answer your question but from experience it sounds like water is leaking into the transmission causing the oil to come past the seal into the wash causing the stains. Try these links and see if they help.

Gunk gets on clothes-stains them,i pulled agitator out and cleaned it off ran bleach thru-its better but still getting on clothes

The problem may be the seal on the transmission failing. If this happens, grease from the transmission (necessary for it to function) will leak and float (recall from science class that oil is less dense that water) up into the washer. As the grease enters the tub, it stains your clothes.

Getting petroleum stains on clothes and there is a strong petroleum odor in the laundry room. Looks like possibly an oil like substance is coming through some of the small holes in the side of the tub

From your description, it sounds like you have a leak in the washing machine's transmission. The most common cause is a seal leak although it could also be a housing gasket.

If the washer is still under warranty, call for service unless you are familiar with washing machine and/or appliance repairs. As always, remember to unplug or turn off the power before attempting any repairs.

Oil spots on clothes after washing

Yes, we had same thing with 20 yr old Maytag and the repair person said transmission. His advice, get a new machine. Transmissions are quite expensive and challenging to replace, approaching cost of a new machine to repair.

I'm getting small orange spots/stains on my clothing after washing them in my Maytag washing machine. it is a 2010 machine too. Any thoughts as to what could be causing the stains?

Unless there is a child's crayon or something similar causing it, then suspect that the agitator shaft seal, or the drum seal is leaking oil into the drum. Hopefully, there is still warranty on the machine. Good luck!

Washer leaves brown stains on clothing, looks like some kind of oil stain or something not from clothing

The only oil would come from your rear bearing assy. Its a very expensive repair. I know the units not that old but I wouldnt waste a service call on it unless they are giving free estimates (which most co.s are not). Its gonna need the rear bearing and back half of the tub. Low end estimate will probably well over half the cost of the unit. Hope this helps _MJ_

Hi! GE top load washer model number wwse5240 is leaving grease stains inside the machine after laundering and of course on clothes. Not sure how old this machine is.

Your transmission is leaking oil. It's probably 10 to 15 years old for the transmission to be leaking. It can be replaced but it's not a small job. Part 320 in this diagram is your transmission.

I get oil stains on some items of clothing in each wash. I've tried discontinuing use of fabric softener as suggested by Sears, and I've also tried several loads of CLR to clean any grime or rust build up....

If this is a front loader, it is the bearings on the tub shaft. I just replaced a set on my front loader for the 2nd time. It is not a real easy fix but mine cost only cost 25.00 for the 2 bearings and seal. Not from Sears.
