Question about Sony SLV-679HF VHS VCR

Open Question

Error Codes Hello, I have two Sony SLV-679HF VCR's . . . both with what appears to be the same problems. The cassette won't eject . . . it sounds like it's trying . . . and they are showing what I believe are two error codes: 11200 and 71501. Does anyone know what these mean and can they be fixed? Thanks!

SOURCE: Sony SLV-640HF VHS VCR ejects any tape after a couple of seconds

While the tape may appear to be loading properly, it is not. These units have a known problem with the grease at the loading arm getting sticky. This means that the tape is not loaded properly and will not move through the VCR properly. This is detected as the hubs not moving and the unit will eject the tape to prevent damage. This is a simple repair for anyone that has done these before, but requires an alignment check. This check requires a special alignment tape and equipment.

This should be a labor only repair.

The VCR is detecting something it doesn't like. Could be a foreign object inside, or the gearing out of time or ... Take the cover off and watch it as it loads and you'll probably figure out why.

SOURCE: VCR tape is stuck - will not rewind or eject.

There schould be a release buuton on the rear of the machine. It's usually recessed and may be difficult to see. Press this with the yip if a ballpoint pen and extract the tape. If the tape is wrapped around the record/playback heads your only option is to remove the top cover and manually remove the tape. Sounds difficult but if you take your time it's not too bad a job.

My Sony VCR Model SLV-662HF will not accept cassettes. I am using a universal remote control. The VCR's display shows APC 71501 and 81508. Do these APC codes refer to the VCR or the All In One universal...

The codes are to program the universal remote control to communicate with the Sony VCR. Try programming the universal remote using one of these: 60000 60032 60033 60035
The acceptance of the cassettes may not be related to the use of a universal remote control. If the URC doesn't have the "equivalent" functionality of the VCR's original remote control, you may not be able to use the URC to perform the functions of the original remote control.

The parts you are looking won't be easy to find, go online to sony, contact customer support, and the technical department to see if they can help, if not! try and find a repairman that still repairs vcr's, because he would have access to part suppliers that may still carry what you need.

Where can i buy new belts for this model SLV679HV

Now days it's all about trial and error w/ vcr belts. Your best bet is to find a tech that has several of the old belts in stock. It doesn't have to be exact, but needs to be very close in size to the original.

I was rewinding a tape and the VCR just stopped. When I hit either play or rewind the VCR makes a kind of whine or grinding sound and then the following message appears in the display: 3L 22 AA. What...

Have you tried ejecting the tape?

If the cassette will not eject, the tape is probably fouled on the capstans and will need to be "surgically" removed, VERY CAREFULLY from the machine.
