My Frigidaire Dryer is not heating anymore. Repair and testing for model...

The example is referring to Frigidaire electric dryer model FEX831CSO. If you have a different model see here how to locate parts and diagrams: Where do I find parts and diagrams?

First part to test is the thermal fuse located at the back of the appliance. This is tested reading Ohms on fuse contacts. follow procedure explained further below to test the fuse.

If the fuse is not the culprit, it will be neccessary to access heater assembly and thermostats.

You access the heater parts by opening the top panel, part 3 on diagram below.

The heater assembly is part of the housing, and it is part 15 on diagram.

Replacing the heater requires further disassembly, first ensure that the problem is not a defective thermostat or thermal limiter. The thermostats fails far more commonly than the heater.

To test heater and thermostat use a multimeter set at Rx1. disconnect the thermostat contacts and read impedance at room temperature.
If the thermostat is good it will read zero or very low impedance.
An alternative way to test a thermostat is by jumping its contacts.

The element is also tested reading impedance. If the element has no continuity (infinite Ohms), then it must be replaced, otherwise it is good.

Test both the thermostat and the Thermal limiter, they are tested in the same way. Both this parts are accessible after removing the top panel, and can be replaced without further disassembling.

Here the parts:

Thermostat:PS446428 part 33 in diag.

Thermal limiter:PS419402 , part 36 in diag.

Test and repair must be done by a trained person. Call the phone number listed on the user manual if you need to contact a qualified technician.

My Fridge started getting war and the freezer part was real cool i unplugged it for a day plugged it back up and it started working 2 days later it stopped again this time i took panel off the back and...

  • Well I can say one of the components responsible for defrost has failed -defrost timer, defrost heater or the defrost thermostat.

  • Unplug the refrigerator and pull the back wall off of the freezer.
  • Now unplug the defrost and the thermostat.
  • Get your Ohm meter out and test for continuity across the heater and the thermostat.
  • No continuity on the thermostat means that needs replaced and the same for the heater.
  • If both of them parts test out OK then you need to replace the Defrost Timer.

  • One of them is bad guaranteed. You want to make sure that there is some fresh ice build up too after cleaning it all off. This insures that which ever component that might be bad is verified messing up again per the ice. Then do the testing.

  • Thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Replaced the defrost thermostat 2 weeks ago now it's freezing up on me again. Not cooling the fridge side. Any suggestions

Pretty common problem and likely to be caused by the failure of a fan which distributes the cooled air between the two cabinets.
When the compressor is running, open the fridge, locate some obvious vents, normally in the inside rear near the top . Hold your fingers close to these and if there is little or no air movement, the fan has stopped.
Go to the link below and enter your model model number to see if Sears has your unit in their library, thousands are, and if found, you will have a line drawing of your fridge which will help you locate the fan and decide if you want to DIY or have a pro replace it:

Ice In Freezer Vents

thick frost on the back wall indicates a defrost problem, either with the defrost control, the heater, or the bimetal thermostat. Without personal inspection, i cant tell you which one it is, but i can narrow it down to those three
