We have a 4250. When printing from our software we get a message that reads "manually feed tray 1" or "click the check mark to print from tray 2". No matter what settings i change i...

This is often caused by software asking for paper that is not loaded in the printer. You can use the paper path test function in the diagnostics menu to ensure that tray 2 is working properly. Also check your driver settings to make sure that the paper size shown in the driver matches what is actually loaded. You need to also check and make sure that the paper type for tray 2 is set for plain paper, otherwise the printer will only print to that tray if you ask for the paper type that is set.

Printer says "Claening sheet required install

The phaser printer using the wax cartridges requires cleaning every so often.
Load standard 8.5x 11 paper and go into the maintenence area on the front panel of the printer. There are 3 types of cleaning available. Use the deep clean option and the printer will spit out several sheets of paper. (THROW THESE AWAY) Don't atempt to reuse the cleaning sheets as it has caused problems for me in the past.
Once done reset the printer.

I am getting a "fax output error - cassette." It

Hi,

Pretty sure your paper tray button is set to get paper from the bottom paper cassette which is the tray that slides into the bottom of the printer.

If you switch the paper tray selection button* to use the rear feed tray you'll probably find it will print faxes successfully or you can put paper in the cassette tray...

*The paper tray selection button is just under (and slightly right of) the "Memory Card" button and has an icon image of the printer with two LED's (top and bottom). These lights indicate which of the trays is currently selected...

Hope that helps.

My printer says there is no paper but there is and when i restart it it senses there is paper and trys to print i get a loud clicking sound and than it reads no paper

The paper is not feeding from the paper tray. The load bang is alarming, but not the problem. Check the adjustments in the paper tray. The left and right guides should be snug, but the rear guide should give between a 1/16 inch and a 1/8 inch of free play. If the rear guide is tight, that is the problem. You can check for this by depressing the lever on the right front of the tray. Depressing the lever should raise the stack of paper out of the tray so that it can slide forward.

If you remove the paper from the tray, but will see calibration marks for the paper size you are using. Unlock the read paper guide n the tray, squeeze the release and move the guide ot the mark for the size paper you are using. For example, it you are using letter size paper, the read guide should point to "LTR".

More than likely, this is a software problem.

Have you gone through the page setup from inside the application?

If you would like to try it, create a Print File for me and send it to [email protected] and I can try to read and debug the print file for you.

Printer will not kick out document automatically, attention lite keeps flashing. tray 2 selected but always defaults back to tray 1

Sounds like you have a mismatch in the paper you are trying to print on and the paper that is loaded in the printer. HP printers look to feed paper from tray 1 anytime the computer settings don't match the paper loaded in tray 2. Tray 1 is the multi purpose tray and prety much any size paper can be loaded in tray 1. Double check your document settings and double check the paper size loaded in the paper tray 2 and make sure they match. Also try printing a different document to see if the error persists. If it does this on everything you try to print you should also double check teh rear guide in the paper tray. There is a rear guide in paper tray 2. If it slides back too far it will make the printer think that paper longer than 8 1/2 x 11 is loaded. Push the paper all the way forward in the tray and push the rear guide until it is snug with the tail end of the paper stack.

Not reading paper

If you toggle the Feed Switch button (lower left side of control panel) to the Front Tray, does the printer print then? What type of paper is selected in your Printer Settings on the computer? I think that if you have selected anything but Plain Paper, the driver wants you to load the paper (photo paper, etc.) in the Rear Tray.
