My best guess is that your inverter board is bad. The whine would be from the transformer. Try to search the internet for a replacement inverter board for your monitor.

Souds like you need in-depth troubleshooting. Voltages checking that will be next, caps have completely flat tops, bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR.

My NIKO 1906W-R LCD monitor starts, but the picture goes off in about a second. The monitor shows the green light indicating it's receiving a signal. I'm looking for a service manual before opening it up....

There are two boards that need to be checked, the power supply board is one problem area "often bad capacitors that bulge at the top" the second problem area is the inverter board and often has bad capacitors, it powers the back lights.

Niko 1906W LCD Flatscreen/Widescreen monitor. - the brightness screen/bar keeps popping up every 5 seconds, and wont close. This is very annoying. Is there anything that can be done about this to make it...

It sounds like the button is probably stuck down or the contacts are too close. Try tapping the brightness button a few times, maybe with some force, and see if the contacts will snap back in place. This could also be caused if the monitor was in a severely moisture-rich environment.

More likely to have problem in the power supply, back light inverter circuits, or worst will be bad lamps. Look for bad caps with bulging top first, post back what you see so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors mostly due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Acer AL175 TFT monitor is coming on but its very dim

The screen itself is starting to go bad which is why your having to turn up the brightness to 100% just to see something. Replacing the screen would cost more then the whole lcd monitor itself so its best to get a new one.

Must turn on and off alot to get screen to stay on

There may be a problem with the monitor's internal power supply. It may be the usual leaking or bad capacitor commonly seen in monitors and LCD alike.

Check your cable that is coming from the video card. Try wiggling the cable to see if the monitor comes back, if that does then your have a bad cable.

Monitor went black in seconds

oboy, One thing to try is the flashlight test. and get backto me with your findings. Tell me, does this lcd show a nice display only for 1-2 seconds and then a black screen when connected to a fully booted PC with Windows desktop displayed? Shine a bright flashlight 1-2 inches from panel and tell me if you see the WINDOWS START Button at lower left of screen even though screen is black! Get back to me if you can. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com BYE for now.

blank_page Use a reset sequence on the monitor-
1. turn off monitor
2. unplug power
3. plug power back in, holding down the last button on the left, then push the power button to turn back on and off three times, holding on the third try until it comes on- hold for ten seconds and release; the monitor should work again
