How on God's green earth do I open the Fantom 12 amp to fix the beater brush belt?
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are probably 2 ways to get @ the belt, usually there are screws, clips or levers on the bottom side of the bottom plate and once they are removed you should be able to get @ the belt, if not then the top cover should come off and then you should be able to get @ the belt. At this point you should be able to get @ the belt to change it. #2. you can always refer to your Fantom owner’s manual for additional information. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. Belt no longer turns the brush

You'll need to open the vacuum head and remove the beater bar. Clean up the bearings at each end of the beater bar and reassemble the head.

Change the belt

You need a phillips screwdriver with a good point because the screws are small. Dirt is goning to fall out,so be ready.---O.K.-- I usually sit on a folding chair outside with the vac upside-down on my lap & the handle between my legs. The screws you must remove are located in recessed holes around the brushes & back towards the wheels. These hold on the base plate.Take this off & the drive shaft should be visible. The beater bar (brushes) should slide straight out towards you. (You may want to look for clogs & generally clean this area now.) Loop the new belt over the end of the beater bar nearest the drive shaft & line it up with the gap in the brissles, then slide the beater bar back in place. Now's the hard part--Hold the beater bar in & pull the belt straight back over the drive shaft--Make sure it's on all the way & lined up straight with no kinks or twists. Replace the baseplate (Don't over tighten the screws or they will strip out & not hold) &you're done.

Reinstalling beater bar... making a noise like its not in the correct slot.

Getting the sole plate back on correctly and the beater brush in the correct slot should help. The clucth is engaging and keeping the motor from overheating is the noise you are hearing.

bearings in the brushroll might be siezing. If you start snapping belts, change the brushroll. the roller brush that most likely needs to be cleaned, clean the hair from the brush and under the belt and make sure the bar is positioned in the vacuum properly and turns easily. Your problem could be the clutch unit what has probably happened is either the clutch plates are warn, or the 3 balls in the clutch have warn a large grove in there fixing plate or the plastic hub that the brush roller to clutch belts runs on has melted this hub melting is the most common of all clutch faults.
There are no spares available for repairing the clutch other than the motor to clutch belt & the clutch to brush belt. Here is a diagram to help you

Vacuum turns on but the brush is not rotating

Most likely a problem with the drive belt or the beater brush. Either the drive belt is broken or the beater brush is frozen due to debris. If you can not turn the beater brush by hand, it should be removed and cleaned well. The ends of the beater brush that hold it into the vacuum should be lubricated with some WD40 and moved by hand until they are free. Once the turn freely, replace the beater brush. If the drive belt is broken or missing, it needs to be replaced.

Power head for Kenmore Canister Vac

Another potential problem for the increase in difficulty in turning the beater bar (drum) could stem from extremely dirty bearings, located at each end of the beater bar. I've seen hair knotted up to the point it chokes the bar and significantly reduces its ability tpo turn.

Beater bar

You may have a bad switch, one part of it is not turning on the brush roll motor. It could also be the brush roll motor.

Brush not turning

ez...there may be a second belt or the bearings in the beater are gummed up. Open up the area where the beater is. There should be a belt in there...if it is broken, you'll have to replace. Before you do...turn the beater by hand...if it turns hard, the bearings are jammed up with old grease or debris. You'll have to deal with that.
