the vent fan will not turn off after microvave has stopped

GE Advantium 120 900 Watts Convection / Microwave Oven
    SCA1000DCC03

Fan turned itself on while microwave was on, in the middle of a cooking cycle. Then would not turn off. Unplugged oven, plugged back in, fan came on right away. Eventually the fan turned off by itself.

Does this mean the oven is starting to go? Oven was purchased in 2003.

Purchased the convection/microwave oven in June 2007. Sept. 5, 2008, in the middle of heating cycle, fan turned itself on and won't shut off. Even after unplugging and plugging back in, fan turns on again.

I have a GE Over-the-Range microwave JNM1541 where the vent fan turns on and won't turn off. This happens even when nothing is cooking on the stove and the kitchen/stove top are cool. Most recently this happend when the microwave cycle ends and you open the microwave door, or if you interrupt the cycle by opening the door. When you press the vent fan button, the system thinks you are turning fan ON, but the fan speed drops to low. Cycling the button between off-high-low simply cycles the fan between high and low. Any ideas?

Vent fan wont turn off

Steve,

The vent fan is thermostat controlled to protect the control panel. Once the panel temp drops, this will turn off by itself. This is normal for this to occur when your steaming and cooking for a long time. Good Luck

GE Spacemaker XL1800 JVM1850CH01 vent fan won't turn on

Unplug for about 5 minutes and allow to reset. If the problem persist, you might want to try replacing the control panel (the one that have all the numbers and timers). Good Luck!

Does the exhaunst fan turn on automatically when we cook or warm food items in our Samsung Microwave -- SMH 9187W?

Some interesting reading on page 8 of the owner's manual:

"Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite and spread if the vent fan is operating. To minimize automatic fan operation, use adequate sized cookware and use high heat on surface units only when necessary."

And on page 20:

"If the temperature becomes too hot around the microwave oven, the fan in the vent hood will automatically turn on at the LEVEL 2 setting to cool the oven. The fan will automatically turn off when the oven has cooled down sufficiently. This is an automated process and cannot be turned off. The fan may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. The Vent Fan will only operate in 1~4 levels modes while the microwave is working."

"Using the Vent delay off button
1. Press the Delay Off button once to turn the fan off after 1 minute.
2. Press the Delay Off button twice to turn the fan off after 3 minutes.
3. Press the Delay Off button three times to turn the fan off after 5 minutes.
4. Press the Delay Off button fiour times to turn the fan off after 10 minutes.
5. Press the Delay Off button five times to turn the fan off after 30 minutes."

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can still download it free here.

Vent fan has stopped working. the keypad says vent fan off. when pressing help, it says press this pad. nothing happens.

A low tech solution worked for me.

I too was getting the "Vent Fan Off" message, and despite the fact that everything else worked fine with the microwave, I turned the breaker off and back on from my electrical panel. The fan works fine now.

Active vent keeps opening and closing though fan is off.

When the unit begins the never ending opening and closing cycle, turn the vent fan on for a few seconds and then turn the fan off. This seems to stop the active vent from opening and closing. If this is GE quality, this is the last thing that I am going to purchase. GE refrigerators are garbage and now I am having problems with a new microwave oven.

GE Microwave Profile Spacemaker Runs on its own

Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem. I have an LG LMVH1750ST microwave convection oven. When I activate the fan for cooking purposes and then try to turn off, it does not respond. I have to pull electrical plug and reprogram for one minute....

From the owner's manual under OPERATION "VENT FAN":

"If the temperature from the range or cooktop below the oven gets too hot, the vent fan in the vent hood will automatically turn on at the 4-Speed setting to protect the oven. When this occurs, the VENT ON/OFF pad will not turn the fan off."

You should check your "vent fan auto time set" setting.

Here's one thing to try to set it to turn off after 10 minutes:

Touch the Vent ON/OFF pad, then touch the "5-SPEED VENT" pad until "level 4" appears in the display, then touch "AUTO TIME SET" the desired number of times.

Mircowave works, exhaust door opens, fan stop working

From looking at the owner's manual, it looks like the vent fan is only supposed to come on when the internal temperature of the microwave gets too high OR when you press the VENT FAN pad. Here are a couple of fan-related excerpts from the owner's manual, which can be found here: http://products.geappliances.com/ProdContent/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SKUOBJECTS&DOCUMENT=Use%20and%20Care%20Manual&SKU=JVM1840BD (or the better URL here: http://tinyurl.com/yn7r6g) Automatic Fan An automatic fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on if it senses too much heat. If you have turned the fan on, you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. - Vent Fan The vent fan removes steam and other vapors from surface cooking. Press VENT FAN once for high fan speed, twice for medium fan speed, a third time for low faw speed, or a fourth time to turn the fan off. Press the VENT FAN BOOST pad for extra fan speed. - Hope this helps.
