try this one, i just read it on other forum hope it help.
First, is the software Vista compatible? Second, ONLY plug in the device AFTER the vendors software and drivers are installed. If you connect the device first either Windows (Vista) will install incorrect drivers or not find any drivers.
Use the System Restore and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to first attaching the device. That will get rid of any issues with plugging it in first. Then check with the device vendor for any updated software and to verify that the software is Vista compatible, the vendor may already have a fix for the installation problem.

Try a system restore and install your updates individually to see which one has caused the issue.

How do I install all of Windows Vista's Updates at one?

You cannot install all at once. What you can do after you get it up to date is make an image of the drive and save it in a hidden partition or DVD.

If you ever have troubles again and need to reinstall it, you simply restore the image and Vista will be installed with all the updates already included

Windows Vista hangs at 3 of 3

You should be able to go to Add Remove and remove the specific update from the date it was loaded. You can also try a System Restore if you have one available for that date. The update did not install itself properly and keeps trying to do so.

hi,

With regard to your issue, there could be a system software update that makes your scanning to work improperly. You may try restoring your system to the working time.

Just go to Start --- All programs -- Accessories-- system tools --- system restore. Look for the date where your system was working fine.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
