My ASUS EEEPC900 came up with a winodws system 32 error - took it to computer geeks and they claim the Hard drive took a dump? They can't get anything to talk to the system - I couldn't get it to see my external usb cd drive so I can't replace - it won't see the usb stick either? So, how hard is it to change out the 20 gb hard drive that is in there? And is it worth i, or should I just throw it away and get a different laptop?

From the sound of it, it is not the hard drive that is the problem it is most likely the sytem board of the notebook, just to make sure you should try booting with a UBUNTU 10.10 live CD if all is well then you have a case of REINSTALLING WINDOWS welcom to the microsoft world...

Good luck!

Dumping error

Solution

Step 1: Check Recently Installed Hardware and Device Drivers

It has been found that many times BSoD occurs because of a faulty device driver or there is a conflict with the recently installed hardware. In such cases, try the latest version of the driver and reinstall the hardware, but before that make sure the hardware is compatible with your system. To pinpoint the problem, you can use third-party software to disable a recently installed driver and see if the problem is solved. Sometimes the problem also could be that the device driver has not been properly configured to meet the requirements of the system.
Step 2: Repair Your Registry
The second most common cause of BSoD is a Registry that has become corrupted or has a lot of invalid entries. If you are experienced and knowledgeable about the Registry, you can edit it yourself, but this is always a risky proposition, and the best course of action would be to buy special software which automatically scans and fixes problems in the Registry.
Step 3: Check CMOS and Memory Modules
If the error message on the BSoD reads "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP," then it indicates you have problem with the memory of your computer. You need to check whether the SIMMs (Single Inline Memory Modules) are compatible and have the same speed. Secondly, also check whether you have set the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) to the right amount of RAM. If these solutions do not work, you might have to replace memory in your computer.
Step 4: Rectify a Damaged Hard Drive
Sometimes the cause of BSoD is a faulty hard disk. Most Windows operating systems have a diagnostic scan for the hard drive, and you need to run this to figure out the problem. Sometimes the operating system will encounter a problem where it is unable to read from the hard disk, and in such cases apart from the hard disk, you also need to check out the SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) terminator.
Step 5: Scan for Virus
BSoD problem can also be caused by a virus which has infected crucial files in the hard drive that might disrupt the flow of information between the operating system and hard drive. If you have already installed antivirus software, you might have to scan your computer with a new one.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ERROR ON MY PC "INSERT BOOT MEDIA IN SELECTED BOOT DEVICE AND PRESS ANY KEY" my motherboard is "P5GZ-MX X-SERIES" solution I have done so far is...

if you took out the hard drive that was in there, there will be no operating system for the computer to boot from, thats why you are getting that error, if you still have the old hard drive in the system and added the new one to it, you may have to go to the boot section in the bios and change the first boot device to the old hard drive..

That means that either the hard drive is not connected correctly, or that the hard drive is formatted and as a result is blank.

HDD error no hard drive found, a new hard drive was installed but the result was the same

If system has a SATA HDD and you are using WIndows XP, you may need to load a SATA controller driver before the HDD controller will be recognized by the Winodws setup. Windows XP will require the driver from a floppy diskette, Vista will load from USB or any other type of drive
