I've installed my new Canon Pixma mg6120 wireless printer software on my wireless laptop and have connected the printer to my router. When I try to print from the laptop to the printer I get the error message, "printer not responding". I have made sure the printer is online and connected to the router. Any suggestions?

Turn off your security software and firewall if you have one and install the software. Once you have reinstalled your software be sure to turn on you security software and firewall again. Be sure to check the printer software and be sure it will run with your present version of your computer. It should if it ran before.
First check with another device that your wifi is working if it is try resetting up wifi on your printer. If someone changed your wifi password you will need to enter the new password.

Possible that the installed drivers is not the one for the model and so does not activate the scanning mode.So it will be best to recheck on the site with the requriement for driver for the correct model and install. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
