For installing a wireless printer on Windows XP, wireless router is an essential device.

Follow the recommended steps mentioned on the installation CD of the router, and set-up a wireless network.

Since several computers or laptops will access the printer, it is recommended to connect the wireless printer to the main computer through the USB port.

To begin the installation process on Windows XP, access the network setting in the Control Panel, and activate the file and printer sharing option in the LAN setting.

This will allow the operating system to recognize the availability of a wireless printer.

Now, click the Start button, go to Devices and Printers, select Add a Printer option. Click the second option- Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

The computer will search for available printer and reflect it on the screen. Click Finish; and the printer is ready to begin the printing process.

My router isnt sending signal to my printer

The router doesn't send signals to a printer. The Linksys transmits a radio signal recieved by the wireless adapters on other devices, if your printer has wireless compatibility it must be setup on the printer, in the wireless settings. I don't think it's a Linksys issue. It a computer software issue. If you post the Computer Make, Model, and your OS, the Printer Make, mode,l I will try to help you. Is this the first time using the Printer?

WPS54G Printer Server Setup

I bought a Linksys Wireless-G WPS54G printer server and trie to put it in my home network. Following the instruction from the manufacturer and spent many hours, I still couldn't make the printer server work. There was no problem to get the IP address from my DHCP server using the wired connection. But when I pulled off the network cable and tried the wireless connection, I got "connection failed" error at the last step to install the printer server. I checked my router's client monitor and found the printer server did get the dynamic IP address wirelessly. When I pinged that IP address, there was no response at all from the printer server. In another word, the printer server couldn't communicate with other devices in wireless mode in the network. I searched the Internet and found there were many users had same problem and couldn't resolve the issue even from the manufacturer technical support. As a last resort before I was going to send back the printer server, I switched the network router to one of a different brand. My previous router was manufactured by BUFALLO INC and the new one was made by D-Link. After I rerun the installation following the instruction, the "connection failed" error was gone. The printer server could work finally.

The tip here is: Try a different brand router when there is a connection failure problem for installing the WPS54G printer server, if possible.

I have a WRT610N Linksys Router. I suddenly have an unresponsive router where I can't get online or connect to the routers setup or preference menu. I get error messages of the Media being disconnected...

Depending on your needs as to the type of router, there are a few different ways of finding the problem/repair/replacement.

I used to have a Linksys N router, that I had connection with a wiFi tower system and it worked great. I got it at Walmart for $49.00 but do not know if they carry them anymore, or not.

Routes can be found many places, and depending on what you need counts, as for WiFi, or hardwire.

I found this on the net, you may want to try it:

Connecting new linksys n to our brother mfc685cw wireless printer. Printer will not read new linksys n router

Hi,

For isolation purposes, you may want to test the printer through the Linksys router via Ethernet cable and see if you can print if it is wired to the router. From there, configure the wireless printer to match the settings on your Linksys router. Once done, try printing again wirelessly.

Tips:
1. Make sure that they are on the same LAN segment. By default the IP address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1. so you may want to configure your printer using 192.168.1.2 for them to communicate.
2. Make sure that the wireless settings on the Linksys router match the wireless settings on your wireless printer. Check the SSID/Wireless Network Name and Wireless Security. All wireless settings should be the same for them to communicate wirelessly.

Linksys wireless G-ADSL Home gateway

Sometimes this happens. Installing the Linksys software for your router helps a lot. To reset the router. Unplug the power cord from the wireless & unplug all cables to it. There is a reset button on the back side of the wireless. It is very small. Using a pen press & hold for ten seconds or so. Release & connect your cables & than the power cord. Never hurts to restart the pc or notebook. If you still need help you can check out Linksys home page for wireless G routers.
