Ensure that the battery is installed correctly as per instructions in the camera manual or remove the battery and place it in an external battery charger and see it will recharge. please note, if a rechargeable battery is too old it will not recharge
Seems the camera's internal battery (different from the EN-EL3 main battery) has drained. As the manual says, you can recharge the internal battery by leaving a fully-charged main battery in the camera for three days.
If the camera continues to pester you for clock setting, you'll have to send it in for service. (Opening the camera likely voided your warranty, btw.)
I don't know how to solve your problem but, the three lights mean this:
Red LED light indicates the battery is being charged
Green LED light indicates that the battery is fully charged
Amber LED light incidates that the battery power level is low - the battery needs recharge.
Do not recharge you battery over 24 hours.
There is an internal battery, but it is a built in and I don't believe it can be removed. However there are clear instructions in the manual on page 69 that detail the steps you should go thru to recharge the exhausted lithium battery for the date.
The thing is, you recharge it too much. Because when you recharge it even though it still has battery power left, it tries to recharge it as much as if the battery was depleted. So, your battery overheats, therefore allowing you 7 hours instead of 20. And yes, it is possible to switch the battery.
According to the manual, you need to power up your 710 with the AC adapter for 4 hours to recharge the internal battery. If this doesn't work, I suppose you need to replace the internal battery, and that's beyond my knowledge.
