Initial problem was it wouldn't change channels, basically locked up. tried the microprocessor reset on the front of the faceplate. after i tried that, now it won't even power up. the faceplate tilts down then up at power off, but nothing else.

Have you tried resetting the microprocessor?

Remove the detachable face. There is a small pinhole on the front of the radio about two inches from the left side near the bottom. Press this in lightly with a fine point pin or paper clip. Hold about 3 seconds, then release.

Replace the face and try it. Let me know.

THE BUTTONS ARE LOCKED CANNOT UP AND DOWN BUTTONS, CANNOT CHANGE THE FREQUENCY

Try resetting your unit (look for a pin size button hidden on the front panel, or behind the panel).

If this does not rectify, then your faceplate (or connection to the main unit) may be defective.

it's more likey the faceplate, and where it makes contacts with the unit. if you try applying pressure and moving the detachable faceplate on while attached and it turns on, there could be a cold solder/loose connection on the board.

None of my buttons work anymore, do i need to buy a new stereo or just the faceplate?

it's possible you may have a bad switch in the face. sometimes if a switch shorts out or has too low of a resistance it will lock up the microprocessor causing none of the functions to work.
