Question about Nikon Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash

1 Answer

Nikon SB600. Hi, I read your post about your SB600 that fell off and the tube was broken. Did you manage to fix it on your own? Please send me the link you mentioned that had step by step instruction on how to fix it. Thanks!

The flash unit is very compact and the high voltage is at 330volts .
NIKON uses strink warap onn the ends of the tube also and the trigger lead will
pull out of the trigger coil if not careful .

If you need repair contact.

Did not flash fire

Have you tried the SB600 flashgun on another Nikon Camera, if not do so, and if it doesn't fire for you, then you should send it to a Nikon Service Centre.

Where can I find a replacement flash head tilting/rotating lock-release button?

Hi Kaye, I reckon the only place you'll get one is from a Nikon Service Centre, or a discarded/broken SB600 from a camera shop.

Nikon SB600 flash won't fire

There may be a short, or it is arcing over,

Test fire it in the dark to see if you can locate the arc. If no arc, it is likely arcing in the charge capacitor or what might be left of the thyristor.. Which could mean a broken contact, solder connection or wire..

I dropped my sb600 and now the flash doesn't work. The unit comes on, but no flash. Is it worth fixing?

there is no harm getting it looked at
it may be something as simple as the bulb is broken and needs replacing rather then spending however much for a brand new flash

I doubt it. Water damage usually is fatal, or very expensive.

Dropped my SB600

It is possible, but highly unlikely considering that there is no real way to purchase the correct Xenon tube outside of Nikon's supply chain. Also, it would depend on your skill level in dealing with high voltage flash tubes - the electronic flash has a little high voltage power supply that charges up some capacitors (the high pitched sound you hear while it is recycling). When you fire the flash you discharge the capacitors across the Xenon tube which generates a plasma and gives of a pulse light. So, the truth is, if you are asking the question, it is probably not within your capabilities - though if you want to give it a shot, please make sure you discharge everything before attempting to do so. Even after several days, there will still be an appreciable voltage present unless Nikon has done something to protect you (doubtful). Also, you would need to pay extreme attention to contamination from skin oils, etc., so that you don't wind up ruining the high voltage part or blackening the bulb that you put in.

If you have a homeowners or renters insurance policy and the deductible is low enough, I believe that this would fall under one of those.

Good luck.

Nikon SB600 flash behaving strangely

I have sent my SB-600 to Nikon twice in the past 6 months to resolve this problem. They have fixed it both times, but never told me what the problem was. I've had it back for exactly 1 day now, and it's started back up again already. If I receive a solution (or replacement), I'll let you know!
