Are you syncing the songs from itunes?  you need to do this in order for the ipod to read the files.

Hi,

i own an iPod myself and i think i can help you,

Firstly, you have to download from the internet the latest version of iTunes. Then you open the itunes programme and plug your ipod on the pc. Start organizing your files on the itunes programme (make lists, add songs). As soon as you finish oraganising your files on the itunes programme and your ipod is still plugged on the pc,

Press the "files" option on the left top of window and then "sync ipod" below!

Hope i helped you!
Looking forward to hearing from you providing further assistance!

Need help deleting songs from ipod and loading more on it?

Connect your Ipod and the device will be detected onthe PC. you can select and delete off all the files that is opened after checking them one by one.
Now Apple nano needs the use of the software ITUNES that is available in the apple ipods nano site. Log on and download , install and run the program.
You can now select all the songs to this software which can be loaded into the nano ipod on connection and routing.

You need to run iTunes on your Mac or PC to load any songs to your iPod (connected via USB to your computer). To my knowledge there are similar solutions for linux, but I'm nor familiar with them.

Ipod nano (unable to download music onto it)

1st answer: You may have a non-Apple product. There are lots of knockoffs of the Nano. Here is a link to check: http://reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-Apple-iPod-Nano-and-iPod-Shuffle-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000

Yes, he can but it would have to be done manually, meaning outside of the iTunes application. When the iPod is connected to a computer, it will show up on the desktop of a Mac as another disk drive. Be warned, as soon as you connect the new iPod to the computer, iTunes will load and attempt to sync (copy) all the songs in its library to the iPod.
