Question about Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Computer cannot detect camera at all!

My camera is fairly new, and I didn't have problems uploading via USB cable until yesterday. When I plug it into any of my USB ports on my laptop, the camera window doesn't pop up, and when I go into my device manager, I get the following error:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I tried plugging my camera into my roommate's computer, and it's worked fine, so it's not the USB cable or the camera itself. I've also tried reinstalling all the canon untilities as well, and that hasn't worked. Anybody have any suggestions? my computer will not detect the camera

Can you use a USB card reader? The canon software is great but it best used for using a method called tethering your camera (when you shoot directly from camera to hard drive)

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

Videos won't upload

Hi there.
Plug the camera into the USB port and wait for the computer to detect it.
When its detected click on my computer/computer, in the list you should see "removable device", click on that and view your files.
Right click on the file you want and select "copy" from the sub menu.
Create a new folder on the desktop and open it, right click in the newly created folder and select "paste", the file should now copy to that folder.
Keep on repeating the process until you have all your files in the new folder.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

My pictures won't upload

What i would do is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them back again but just don't plug in the camera to the computer until it asks you to or not until it goes (Detecting new Device). Thats what i would do. Usually that fixes the problem. Another thing could be your USB connection is not working check it by plugging in another device to the same port and see what happens. Maybe its you USB connection. Let me know how that goes

When linked to my lap top wont retreive the images , worked grand yesterday

if you haven't tried to reload the software do that first. i could be a messed up driver if that doesn't work try a different USB cable. USB cables are notorious about going out when it is with a a device that is plugged and unplugged often. my phone acted the same way with a bad cable. replaced cable and it worked great.

Computer cannot detect camera at all!

This works for Windows98

1. Uninstall the Canon camera software.
2. Search for "Canon" in the registry. Delete ALL references associated with Canon camera in the registry. Just uninstalling the software will not work. Do not delete any other references to Canon products (printers, etc).
3. Re-install the Canon camera software.

I've had to do this several times. Works every time.

Optio W10 usb cable does nothing

The first rule with any new didital camers is as far as I am concerned is -Leave The Disk in The Box Windos is quite capable of reading removeable meadi with out extra layers of programs. So Remove the software [Start/Comtrol Panel/Add Remove software, etc., Reboot the computer. Plug in the camera Make sure it is set to the upload function[see manual] Windows Camera/scanner wizard will come up select what you want to do[coy to folder] click OK. Do all this first If still in trouble check the cable with another, and if you can remove media card and try through yours PC or another via a card reader. You have to eliminate which is dud Camera[switchng] cable. When you have make the decision and concluded it is the camera/cable, pack it all up and take it back from the place it came from.
