Songs probably in wrong format

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

Nano is frozen in a song. No sound. Won't shut down or respond to any function. Doesn't show up on computer when plugged into USB.


Have you already attempted to reset the iPod?
If not you will want to attempt that as your first step towards resolving this issue.
To do so you will need to simply press and hold both the center and menu buttons for at least ten seconds or until the apple icon appears on the screen.
If this does not resolve your issue please do let me know.

Files coming up Invalid, and it shuts down when I go to delete, and only about half the songs are showing up on the mp3 player but can be played when attached the computer.


it shuts down may be because of virus you may scan it and cure it and some songs may be of any other file format which don't work in ur device so you may change the format ! ! !!

Two problems 1)My sansa clip shut down on its own and when I turned it back on all files were erased. When plugged into the computer the media player still showed 3/4 of the memory still used on the clip...


Its not usles, you can delete the files while on the computer. After having in plugged in you can access it like a flash drive. Then you can open the music folder and delete as you will. Depending on what kind of files you have on it, its possible that i wont recognize the format of the file. I think though from what you've said that it did work, and then stopped playing songs that worked before. So I don't know what to do about that. I don't use the normal way of loading songs onto my Sansa clip MP# player though. I just dump all of my songs via direct transfer into the music folder in the player itself

this is normal for this player - it goes to sleep fairly quickly - se p.35 of manual to see how to change frequency of shut off

Deleting songs


use windows explorer to access the mp3 folder where the songs are stored and delete them

Sansa c140 screen frozen


Try a "hard reset". Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to shut off. With the device off, press and hold the vol + and the center select button. Power it back on, see if that works. You can add to the question if you have more questions. Best of Luck.

Menu of languages, won't let me play songs, shut down


Try formatting the player in MSC mode (SETTINGS>USB MODE>MSC) in the My Computer window. Then after it has been formatted try updating the firmware of the player. Notify me if you want steps on how to update the firmware of the player. :D

Device keeps shutting off by itself and won't synch


Make sure the songs are in the right format. Napster is a real bear about disappearing songs - try another music svc.
