    Hi there

    Thank you for the response.

I ended up persevering with it one night and managed to get it completely apart, clean the motor & filters, and fix the problem.

It seems my daughter had been pulling the power cord out past the recommended level until it eventually broke (open-circuited) where it joins the retractable roller. I dismantled the spring-loaded roller (which was a hell of a job with all the hidden plastic clips etc) and rejoined the cord and now it works like new again.

It's about an hour's work when you know what you're doing, but it took me 6 hours working out how to do it.

    If anyone needs advice, email:

Plush carpet setting on vaccuum?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC41 Animal's cleaner head is designed to self-adjust to different floor types - so you don't need to bend down to adjust a dial. You can see how this feature works in the video below. In addition to this, next to the red on/off switch you'll see a silver brush control switch, which allows you to turn off the brush bar for hard floors and delicate carpeting.

Carpet manufacturers sometimes recommend vacuuming certain types of carpeting with the brush bar turned off - we'd suggest checking directly with the manufacturer of your carpets to ensure you're cleaning them correctly.

If you'd like any further advice on using your DC41 Animal, please email us at and one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

Emptied cannister and now roller will not rotate and yellow ball became very warm-

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. It's normal for the Ball to become warm during use, since the motor is housed inside it. If the Ball won't rotate, you may have the filter cover fitted incorrectly - please see the video below to ensure the HEPA filter and filter cover are correctly secured in place. If this doesn't help, or if you're concerned the cleaner is becoming excessively hot, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone, and assist in resolving this issue for you as quickly as possible. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). Kind regards, Jack Dyson Online Customer Support

Hose is not getting any suction

when vacuums shut off randomly it usually means they are overheating. this can be caused by a clog somewhere in the line of suction, or, perhaps due to a very dirty filter - either way, the motor is working hard and getting too hot.

try removing all the various tubes and parts along the suction route and checking for clogs (a flashlight might help too). also, have you rinsed out your two pre-filters lately as recommended in the Dyson manual? it might help.

Dyson DC05 vaccuum cleaner

I pried the wheels off with a couple of tyre levers.
Under the wheels are a couple of Torx screws.
Undo these and the casing comes apart.
