Had a similar issue with Western Digital. Unfortunately, the only way to get your data off the drive is to send it off to a data recovery studio.
You may try finding it in COmputer Management-Disk Management, but I doubt you'll have any luck. Most probably the read/write heads are damaged.

Try to copy something else to it, if that does not work you have something wrong with the computer or drive. If so rip to your hard drive then move over to the external drive.

It's a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB, serial number 9QM415RM. It runs perfectly (can hear humming) but my laptop isn't picking it up.

Access the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp?form=0

and enter the model-number, and the serial-number, to see if the disk-drive is still under warranty.

If so, Seagate will replace it, at minimal cost to you.

My seagate free agent desk 500 gb makes beeping sound when I plug in the power cord. it does make sound, feels like disk moving/ vibration when plugged in but beeps and does not register or pick up signal...

This sounds most likely like there is media/platter damage occurring if you feel the motor turning. Nothing you can fix on your own, you need a professional with a clean room to examine the issue.

Can't find external HD anymore

Even a short drop like that can produce a deadly blow to a disc type hard drive. Here is their website which has a diagnostics tool for the hard drive available. Good luck, hope you dont have a paper weight on your hands.

Hard Drive Dropped

Turn off your computer and then plug in the FreeAgent external drive. Then try turning your computer on, it should read.  If it doesn't I would go to the Seagate website for troubleshooting.
