I, too, have an issue with Bluetooth detecting my hands-free headsets and my Magellan GPS.
I succesfully paired to both my Plantronics headset and my Jabra headset and I was also able to connect to the Magellan GPS.
Now, all of a sydden, it won't even detect those devices!
    I tried re-setting, but that didn't help.
    Any suggestions?

I just bought an iphone a week ago. Switched from Verizon after > 15 years with them. I have 2 headsets. Plantronx 3xx and Plantronix 9xx (one for each car). I don't have the headsets powered on at the same time. I assume from others that because I got out of range, neither reconnect now. 1st time I thought it was just a 'wierdness'. I unpaired the 9xx and re defined it it came back. 3xx is still not connecting, yet it shows paired. Not sure iphone was a smart choice given this kind of problem and how fast it uses batterty....

Any suggestions before I take it back to Best Buy. They probably won't take it back. I have the receipt, but it was opened, and can't be resold as new. However, how is ANYONE going to know if it works, if you don't take it out of the box??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. My e-ail address is paul.rollin@gmail.com Thanks, in advance. Paul

the iphone is not set up to use bluetooth with anything but a headset or car, something even the cheapest phone on the market manages to do.

  • trahamot Mar 04, 2009

That is a lame marketing decision to not allow iPhone to sync files over Bluetooth. I simply wanted to transfer my address book from my old phone to my MacBook Pro, then to the iPhone. Such a basic feature of Bluetooth technology should be expected of a Bluetooth enabled phone. My old Razr can do it, why not the iPhone? The mark of a good high tech product is having multiple ways of doing what you need to do, so if one way fails there is an alternative. Looks like the iPhone 3G is a bad apple (pun intended).

The iphone 3g bluetooth is at present for headsets/handsfree devices only and cannot link/pair with anything else (phones/pc etc) it has been deliberately crippled to force file transfer etc to be done exclusively through itunes

To pair tooth u need to do following:
1. turn off tooth
2. turn off blue tooth function on the iphone
3. push on and hold it on the tooth until solid blue light comes up
4. turn on blue tooth on the iphone, it finds it in 2 sec, password 0000

it worked with my Samsung WEP250.

IPHONE is not perfect, but its the BEST phone ever made. have it for 2 years and enjoy every second of it

Hi Nelson,

Don't worry all of the iPhone 3G problems will be solved, including the bluetooth problem, & you will be able to enjoy your iPhone 3G.

The iPhone eG bluetooth problem is quite easy to fix -

Rest car hands free
Reset iPhone 3G
Now your pairing should work.

Have fun with you iPhone 3G

Thank you soooo much ! I have been trying to pair my bluetooth headphones to my iphone4 for days and I had no idea why I couldn't get past searching for devices. I used your advice and held the main power button, from the off state until it began to blink back and forth from red to blue (normally blue-on red-turning off or charging) and within seconds my phone was finally able to locate the headphones Thanks Again

I had the same problem, with a jWIN JB-TH130 and an iPhone 3g. Following the instructions didn't work. Or rather, I was not understanding that the picture in step 3 for pairing involved holding down the main button (power button, from the off state... i.e., keep holding down the power button after you turn it on) for 8 seconds, and THAT will make it blink alternating red and blue and voila! The iPhone detected it, prompted for the code, input 0000, and it was paired. Works fine.

  • Kenneth Monroe Nov 18, 2011

I have a Uniden UN114 headset and it wouldn't connect to my new iPhone 3GS either, after resetting the device I discovered that I didn't have to reset the phone. It was the code that was the problem, after inputting the "0000" code it linked right away. DON'T RESET YOUR PHONES, JUST PUT THE 0000 CODE WHEN PROMPTED AND IT WILL WORK!!!!!

Its kind of stupid if you have to reset your phone all the time and loose all the messages and everything else on the phone back to factory settings... I had the same problem with my iphone 3G sync ok with the bluetooth until it went out of range and didn't want to connect again.

Something apple should look into it...

Be aware that some applications might mess up your bluetooth connection especially if you have an unlocked/jailbroken device. For example, I have a jailbroken iphone 3G. I installed an application called USB Drive from Cydia which enabled me to use the iphone as an usb memory stick. The application has 3 modes: Drive+iTunes, Default and Drive Only and by default it is set in Default mode (obviously). The thing is that I only got it to work in the Drive Only mode as this was the only mode in which my PC would recognize it as a USB drive. But since I made that change I couldn't use my bluetooth headset anymore. It simply couldn't connect to it. I tried everything: turn bluetooth on and off, reboot the phone, remove the headset from the device list and try to pair with it once again, reset the settings and so on. Absolutely nothing worked. Until I remembered that everything worked fine just before I installed that USB Drive app. So I opened the app, switched back to Default mode and bam! iPhone paired with the headset and everything went back to normal...

Hi
There is a Big problem with the iphone 3g bluetooth...
when you go away from the iphone the headset lose connection with the blueooth and that's normal , but when you coming closer to the iphone the headset will not reconnect again!
until you delete the headset from the bluetooth setting and pair it again.
Ive tried it with two bluetooth headset : Blueant z9 and Soundid sm100 , with both of them i had this problem.
I called apple and they told me to open the airplane mode for a min and shut it , didn't help.
i just can't believe apple release the phone like that even when they will fix it on the next update.

Hello,
Following the procedures described on Apple Support I was able to make it work: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
Look for the text "If Internet tethering using Bluetooth does not work, follow these troubleshooting steps:" and click on it. Following these steps made it work.

Re: I phone blue tooth issues i was having the same problem . The issue for me was simple . It is extremely easy for the Mac book to discover the device and link with the code… But then you cant connect it keeps cycling … frustrating!! i was like it detects my magic mouse no problem….. so it pointed to the phone , then i realized you have to go into the phone and turn on the internet tethering then bam it’s connected all good no worries ….. it will not do it on its own ….only discover and link with the code!!!!! It is also a good idea to turn off Location Services as this will free up the phone for max POWER!!!! Mac is the best ! It is so efficient it is usually human Error ! No Jail breaking required!

You have to use iTunes to transfer all your contacts by plugging the iPhone into your Mac with the USB/power cable that came with the phone, then iTunes should launch and see your iPhone... If you have Windows, I believe the instructions are the same. You'll have to transfer the contacts from the Nokia phone to your Mac's Address Book first. I'm not sure what to use on Windows for that part.

I just got it to work. Follow these steps:

On iPhone:
1) Go to Settings
2) Go to Reset
3) Select "Reset All Setting" (Make sure you save passwords. Data is safe.

On Car:
Clear all previous pairings.

Once iPhone reboots, turn on Bluetooth.

Pair as usual

The iPhone unfortunately does not pair with just any device, it would be best to check compatibility before purchasing a new peripheral for your iPhone.

I would try doing a clean restore of the device, also, if you're using any type of unlock, you will lose them in this process (which may not be a bad thing, sometimes nasty things happen with unlocks and such).

If it sticks around even after this, then I'd look into possibly a hardware issue or defect.

Good luck.

Unable to connect to other bluetooth devices

Do you have bluetooth turned on and allow pairing?

Apple suggests this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1838
Also many older and "cheaper" bluetooth devices do not work with iPhone. Check out this article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13544_3-9740876-35.html
Hope it helps!

Most Bluetooth devices can connect only to one device. Make sure that it is not paired with any other device. Then again, if that doesn't work then, probably the Bluetooth device is non-compatible.

Apple ifone bluetooth

you have to make sure that bluetooth is turned on.

go to your home screen, touch settings, then general, then bluetooth, make sure the bluetooth switch is set to on.

Then follow your directions for the your headset for pairing, usually it involves holding the power button down for so many seconds, then it will enter a "pairing" mode where the headset is able to be seen by phones.

Once that happens it should pop up on the bluetooth page of the iPhone and it will ask for the devices password. Most devices the default password is 1111.

Hope this helps and enjoy your Iphone, I know I do ;)
