If you're running Windows XP, and you see a message saying "Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file.". This usually means one of the running application is a badly programmed application, and is absorbing too much memory and is the cause of the problem.
Instead increasing virtual memory paging size, you need to find out what program is giving you troubles, and eventually reinstall it.
Here is how to identify applications using memory in a bad way.
Here is info on RAM, Virtual Memory, etc. If you did not find any suspect application using a large amount of memory, then try increasing virtual memory paging size

And finally HERE is how to increase virtual memory paging size in Windows XP.

And HERE how to increase virtual memory on Vista.

bring my rating back to normal, over 200 solutions had been voted by same person inappropriate.

Many votes were on top of Fixya and some helpful.

My rating was 89% before this, with 2 inappropriates and 125 Fixyas.

    Bring it back to normal

I will report as many abuses as I can find please track the rest.

I don't wish to sound rude but if you don't know how to do this, you prolly should just let windows continue managing it. A few wrong keystrokes can have major repurcussions

follow this guide to increase virtual memory: http://www.ehow.com/how_2282429_increase-virtual-memory-windows-xpincrease-virtual-memory-windows-xp.html
the rule of thumb is 1.5 times the amount of ram so if you have 512mb set it to 768, 1 gb of ram = 1.5 gb virtual memory.

When i playing online games on my computer it shows a massage of virtual memory low....and the system go to hang.....hw can i solve ths problem...

Virual memory is an area on the Hardrive that "acts" like memory when your RAM gets too full
If your gaming--its better to increase RAM -but here is how to increase the Virtual memory

Go to START> right-click on MY COMPUTER>PROPERTIES>ADVANCED click on SETTINGS under the Performance area-- then click the ADVANCED tab -and you should see an area to change(increase) your Virtual Memory

If this was helpful, please indicate so, if not -comment back so we can dig further to resolve this.

Opening programs is so slow virtual memory running low

which operating system you are using and what is the ram capacity? and onemore thing to check what is your virtual memory capacity. for that

Right click "mycomputer" > properties > advanced >click settings on performance > in advanced tab > increase virtual memory file size.
generally its size is ram capacity * 2 (ex: for 512mb its virtual memory size is 1GB) check that and we can increase the file size also.

by performance click settings
in pop up window click advanced tab
at the bottom you'll see virtual memory

I have an IBM thinkpad T20 running windows 2000. The computer is on and booted up but the monitor is not lighting up. It is running on 256mb ram and I was getting a lot of virtual memory is low warnings...

To determine if the laptop has a problem with the inverter of low virtual memory issues, plug an external monitor in to the laptop and you can change the virtual memory by following these instructions, right click on my computer, select properties, then select advanced, click on virtual memory and change the settings to system detemined, save settings and reboot the laptop without the external monitor to see if it is virtual memory or inverter.
Please keep me informed

kind regards and please don't forget to rate us
