HP laptops have several problems with GPU overheating. Could also be a bad stick of RAM or a bad hard drive. You will need to remove each one and try to power on after each is removed. If still wont light up the screen you probably have a motherboard problem with the video chip (AKA: GPU processor)

Blank screen

Did it boot all the way? Do you hear the fan running, disk drive spinning? If it sounds like it booted but the display is black, try this:
When you press the power button do you hear fansrunning, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lightsconstantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer ofthe DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying toboot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

My computer will power up, I can hear the fan working etc, all things are a go and there is even sound when I hit butons etc. it appears to be working but my screen is black

Plug in an external monitor to your laptop, if you see an image on the external monitor then your laptop screen is bad. It could be the screen itself or a video inverter.

If you can't see an image on the external monitor, then your video card on the laptop may be damaged.

Good luck

Blank screen (Black) on Acer Aspire 9100, 2005 version, Laptop

Hi,

Because you have tried it on an external monitor tells me it's nothing to do with screen, inverter or backlight.

This because if it was any of the above you would still get a display on the external monitor.

It's either one of two things: faulty memory or its not seated properly. check on the system memory, clean the contacts and slots and make sure you seat it properly. if you have more than one stick of memory installed take one out and rotate them one at a time turning the laptop on in between.

If you still get nothing on screen then chances are that the GPU (graphics processing unit) is shot.

Good luck.

When I press power button, only power button is lit green solid and nothing else happens...nothing on the screen...all black. No sound codes. Tried external monitor...nothing. CPU fan keeps running....

yes its motherboard. GPU has failed. Most likely you'll need to get your motherboard Reballed or Reflowed. I have found some reasonable business partners that do this service through ebay. usually runs 80-140 to get fixed. good luck!

Need help for Acer Aspire ONE MODEL # ZG5 screen does not work?My Acer Aspire ONE MODEL # ZG5 notebook is show that the power is on, but the screen is black. I can hear the computer running, but there is...

If you are sure the computer is running then connect an external monitor to the laptop. You will have to select the external using your Function keys FN + F7 or F8. If you can now see your machine on the external monitor then you know it's the screen portion of your laptop that is faulty. If this does not work then the sounds you are hereing are probably just the fan and the hard drive spinning. These are not an indication that the computer is working. All in all, I would say that the laptop needs to see a pro.

Blank screen on start up on Acer Extensa 4620

Did you switch displays to the external video? Try hitting the Fn key and whichever function key at the top of the keyboard has a little TV screen icon over it at the same time.

Dead pc

try to remove all external device connected to your computer. just leave the keyboad, mouse and monitor connected.
restart computer.
if still a blank screen
remove everything connected to your computer (mouse kyeboard and monitor) restart if nothing happens
open your computer and remove all devices (hard drive, optical drives, memory... restart,,, you should be hearing beeping sounds indicating motherboard is looking for memory. try putting back 1 memory at a time and checking all mem slot. to identify if one of the memory could be causing the blank screen. if both memory will not work try to use known good working memory. if you dont get to hear the beeping sound using a known good working memory. your memory is the problem.
