Question about Nikon COOLPIX L3 Digital Camera

2 Answers

No image in lcd screen

I turned on my L3 this morning - the splash welcome screen showed and the graphics on the screen are showing but there's no image from the lens (in any mode - normal, scene or video). There's clearly power to the camera and the screen works, so does anyone know what might be going on? Might the shutter be stuck closed? Is my L3 a gonner..?

Chhers,
Martin (in UK)

Thanks for your help, dlundmark. I wouldn't have thought that it might be the ccd, although I did later realise it couldn't be the shutter (!). That gives me more to go on with Nikon UK, though.

    Thanks very much.

Okay, I'm back and I'm still having problems. The camera now does take pictures, but they're largely orange in hue and have pale stripes across them. Video capture colour seems okay, but the results seem a little jerky.

Still think it could be the CCD?

Many thanks.

M.

Hi:
This sounds internal and could be a bad ccd (sensor). If you call Nikon at their toll free number and ask them, it may be possible that they will fix this for free. They will let you know if it is too much to fix, in which case it will be returned to you. With Nikon you will need to pay for shipping to Nikon's repair facility.
For possible repair see this link and call the toll free number at the service center... https://www.nikondealernet.com/sal4/
Take care

When I turn on the camera the LCD screen no longer shows the settings. I can still take pictures and it shows the image on the LCD screen, and if I hit menu screen shows. Did I push something I wasn't...

That is just a setting. It turns off the lcd to save battery or when you want to just use the optics for sightiing/focus etc. Should be one of the menus that show up when you hit the menu button. You should be able to set it off as it is now or have it display for a few seoncds then off and on all the time.

Sony had a certain issue with the CCD chip on this camera. If it's this issue, they'll fix it free plus $20 until March 2010.

In my w180 image is clear and bright in the LCD screen but when i downloaded the images to my PC it shows poor lighting and dark images pls help me

The lcd screen on your camera is back-lit and shows a brighter picture than the one you actually take. If you can turn down the screen brightness that may help. You could also raise the "exposure compensation" setting and experiment until you find a setting you like.

THE LCD SCREEN ON MY OLYMPUS E 410 SHOWS THE WORD SHADOW WHEN I ACCESS A PICTURE. wHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND WHAT DO I DO WITH IT?

All this shows you is the underexposed (shadowed) parts of that particular image. To remove that from the LCD screen hit the INFO button and this will change the information that is displayed about that particular image. You can keep toggling the INFO button until you get it to just show the image by itself.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

You have internal problems, possibly the ccd . Also there could be internal connections which have become loose.

Nikon Coolpix L3

Nikon Technical Support Team on the web site should need to know about this. Check if in fact the images do show but only dimly if you look carefully along the screen if you can this would suggest the back light has failed. But if you can see menu item but no play back#then this suggests another type of firmware failure
