Hi There I am trying to locate the raptor 3.5"

Here's your solution, I had the same problem. Purchase Thermaltake Black Widow PC Gaming Hard Drive eSata + USB Docking Station (part number: ST0005U). I got mine at Best Buy for $55, but I'm sure you can find it online for much less. Good luck - trust me this works..... oh and by the way, dont buy a SATA-to-USB cable because your USB port on your PC does not provide enough power to the hard drive and you won't be able to access your drive.

I have a abit 1c7g motherboard intel 3.2ghz processor twin western digital raptors sata raid 0 config ... 1 sony dru 710a on ide 1 (slave) trying to install plextor 880sa dvd burner having conflict with...

Suggest you connect the plextor to the SATA port 3 and set it's jumper to Master. All SATA drives are seen as Master drives. (Check the serial number on your WD SATA drive "Primary".
Enter the bios menu. Within page 3-7 section 3-3 Advanced bios features. Check, 1st, 2nd and third boot devices.
Floppy disk drive as, 1st boot device. 2nd boot device, "Primary WD SATA port 1". 3rd boot device, CD-ROM drive SATA port 2, Plextor 880sa drive". Save and exit the bios. If you no longer have you're manual you can download it from the link provided below;
http://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/fae/ic7-g_eng_v101.pdf
Check page 3-13. See OnChip serial ATA Mode. As noted, the RAID option is available when the item "OnChip serial ATA" is set as [Enhanced Mode].

Sata/bios problem???

Each non-SATA drive (CD or DVD or disk-drive) will have a small grid of pins, usually 3-by-2 or 4-by-2.

Look very closely, for labels: MA(ster), SL(ave), C(able)S(elect) for each pair of pins.

You allowed to have a maximum of *TWO* drives as "master",
but you probably have *THREE*.

Move the small "jumper" on each drive to the 'CS' position.
Then, the proper "master/slave" relationship on each IDE channel will be established.

Make sure your "boot" drive is connected to the "end" (not the "middle") connector on the "IDE1" (not "IDE2") channel.

WD Sata drive was working perfectly then during the night

As you hear a tickling sound, I am pretty sure the HDD has gone faulty. Only way to see whether you can recover the data by your self is to fix the HDD into a external SATA enclosure and see whether it works and detected by the PC.

Otherwise the only option is to go to data recovery specialists who are normally very expensive.
It is worth contacting a local computer shop first.

All the best!

does the machine recognize the hard drive ????
Windows software doesn't care what hard drive you have, as long as the machine can detect it and mounted.

My new WD SATA hard drive does not have a 4-pin connector

Hi nas2,

You can purchas a SATA power cord addapter that can assist you. The cord is called SATA Serial ATA Power Cable. Unfortunetly, Best Buy™ does not carry these cables. You can however google the cord and order it online for cheap.

Sincerely,

NI8 SATA DVD Drive compatability

You must have added the SATA drive after setting up the IDE. If both drives are using the same os this will not function. Ony one drive can have the os on it. All SATA's are seen as a master.
To correct this problem, disconnect the IDE drive. Hook up the SATA drive. Again if the SATA has the os on it everything will run. Change the jumper on the IDE and set it as a slave. Hook the IDE up. Enter the bios & do not list the IDE in the boot to section. Problem solved. While in windows, format the IDE drive.
You do not want windows thinking you want a dual boot system.
So you understand, in the bios -boot settings this is how things should be listed.
Boot device 1 Sony Optiarc DVD drive
Boot device 2 WD raptor SATA, In-stall your os to this drive

Installing windows xp with 2 new sata wd 150g 10k 16m raptors to NO avail...

I guess you are trying to install Windows XP in RAID 0 configuration. If so, you need to do several steps:
1. Configure the bios to work as RAID 0
2. Download the RAID driver from the mobo vendor site, copy it onto a floppy disk and have it ready for when Windows asks for it.

See this link for detailed example http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/mb/abit/kx7-333/raid1.htm

In SATA there is no master/slave configuration, so there is no need for jumpers.

I hope this answers your question.

Trying to install windows xp on SATA hdd wd raptor 74 g , i can see it in bios  but can`t install windows on it, i boot the cd with data lifeguard tool from western digital but nothing....need help

you need to put the sata drivers onto a floppy disk and when it asks during the xp setup do you want to install any 3rd party drivers say yes and load the drivers from the floppy. The sata drivers with the floppy generator should be on the drivers cd you recieved.
