Question about Danby DCD5505W Electric Dryer

2 Answers

My dryer drum is no longer turning when I press start.

Yes, I can hear the motor running and everything. It just doesn't turn anymore. I have taken the top cover off to look inside but the drum takes up most of the space and therefore my viewing capacity is limited. I was wondering if I would have any luck taking off the back panel next and then maybe I can inspect the belt from that angle ? ( I am not mechanically inclined per se but I am willing to learn and try on my own because I am on a fixed income and so your help is a blessing to me and I thank you much ) I am glad I found this web-site.

On some dryers, actually the front comes off easier. Yes, you need a better view down there. Make sure the dryer is unplugged! Let me know what you find.

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

The dryer turns on but the drum doesn't turn, it spins when I manually do it?? Could it be a broken belt?

No most likely your motor is starting to seize up if you can use your hand to spin the drum while holding the dryer switch down and pressing the start button and this causes your drum to spin then the windings on the inside of the motor have become weak and you would need to change the motor in the unit. And if you do order a motor for the unit you should also order a new blower wheel as well because the wheel is made out of plastic and usually when you try to remove the blower wheel from the motor from the rear of the machine 8 out of 10 times the wheel will break because it has been attached to the motor for so long. If you have any further questions message me back and please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks Rick
p.s on the other hand if you can hear the motor running but drum doesnt spin then yes this would be a broken belt issue with you unit

When the dryer starts it makes a quick grinding noise like it is having trouble starting. After only 1 second that noise goes away and the dryer appears to be working fine. It will stay running anywhere...

Drum doesnt turn when turned on, can hear power goes to motor. Hve checked the belt and it is attached and can be maually turned

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A PULLY ON THE MOTOR SLIPPING IF YOU CAN HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING, BUT THE DRUM DOES NOT TURN. IF NOT THE PULLY, THEN THE BELT MAY BE SLIPPING IN THE PULLY, BUT THE PULLY IS TURNING. THEN A NEW BELT IS NEEDED. IN EITHER CASE YOU WILL NEED TO ACCESS THE MOTOR AREA TO SEE WHATS HAPPENING. MOTOR COULD BE NOT RUNNING, EVEN THOUGH YOU HEAR A HUM IN IT. BUT, MOTORS NORMALLY RUN LONGER THEN THE LIFE OF THE DRYER.

Pushed dial, dryer would not start. Heating coil on, can feel the heat and hear ticking.

If the heating elemnts are coming on but the drum is not spining then the motor could be bad or the belt could be broken that turns the drum. The motor could also be on a thermal overload in this case unplug the dryer or turn off the circuit breaker for 15 minutes and let everything cool down. After turn the breaker back on or plug it back in and give it a try if you hear the motor running but the drum is not spinning then the belt is probably broken and will have to be replaced.

The dryer drum won't turn. Everything else seems

If you can hear the motor running when it is turned on then you dryer needs a new belt. If you cannot hear the motor running it needs a new motor.

My dryer drum is no longer turning when I press start.

When you turn it on, can your still hear the motor running but the drum doesn't spin? If so, yes, the belt could have broken or slipped off the pulley.

With my dryer, putting in a pair of shoes often makes it turn off. I hear it tumble for a while and then and then I hear a squeal and then the dryer turns off.

I have seen a device that can be put inside a dryer and adjusted to fit tight between the diameter of the drum and will allow you to put shoes on it. This solves the CLUMP - CLUMP - CLUMP issue.

If you don't hear the motor, its possible there is a blown fuse. have you checked your breaker panel too?

Good luck,
- Jim
