Question about Danby DCD5505W Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer drum is no longer turning when I press start.

I put a pair of gym shoes in the dryer and now the drum is no longer turning. Can you tell me what could be the problem ? Is it a fuse or a belt off line or something ?

I also put a pair of gym shoes in my dryer but then it just stopped. When I go to turn it back on, I get nothing - motor is not even on, but the light is. Any thoughts?

I too put a pair of shoes in the dryer. It tumbled for a few minutes and then I heard a snap and then there was a burning rubber smell. Now when I try to turn it on. I smells like burning rubber and the drum doesn't turn.

When you turn it on, can your still hear the motor running but the drum doesn't spin? If so, yes, the belt could have broken or slipped off the pulley.

With my dryer, putting in a pair of shoes often makes it turn off. I hear it tumble for a while and then and then I hear a squeal and then the dryer turns off.

I have seen a device that can be put inside a dryer and adjusted to fit tight between the diameter of the drum and will allow you to put shoes on it. This solves the CLUMP - CLUMP - CLUMP issue.

If you don't hear the motor, its possible there is a blown fuse. have you checked your breaker panel too?

Good luck,
- Jim

Help I put a bunch of shoes and one pair of work boots in the dryer and had the bright idea to duck tape the door shut. We had some body lice come into our house so I was trying to heat treat the shoes!...

Maybe a belt or the start cap. The click is probably a relay switch. Will the drum turn by hand? Turn it on, spin the drum and close the door while its still spinning. If it starts then its the start capacitor on your motor. Most electric motors need extra juice to start. A capacitor is like a battery and can go bad after a while. It looks like a battery and should be mounted on or right next to the motor.
As it if you can fix this... that depends on you. Have you worked on dryers before? Do you know how to remove the panel from around the door with a putty knife?

Samsung front load dryer

it sounds like the problem may be with the door lock. Having shoes bouncing around in the dryer they are bound to hit the door over and over possible causing damage to the lock. Try pushing on the door and holding it shut while you turn on the unit and see if it works.

My dryer (maytag atlantis) has started making a loud clunking noise with each revolution. its still drying fine but sounds terrible. any thoughts?

A loose belt will allow the drum to slip when clothes hit the paddles in the drum. It sometimes sounds like a pair of tennis shoes are in the dryer when it slips and is usually rythymic.

These machines also use drum rollers that can make a racket when they go bad.

Good luck.

Dryer drum stopped rotating, dryer blower continues to work.

The belt probably broke, and coincidentally happened while drying the shoes. The belt is easy to replace. Open the back and you'll probably see the belt laying on the bottom

Here's one place you can order a new drum. However, if the drum has cracked twice in four months you need to find out if there's something else with the dryer that's making the drum crack. You also need to think if you're doing something like putting shoes in there or something that's stressful on the dryer.

Kitchenaid gas dryer had a pair of gym shoes in it and one of them got jammed and stopped the whole thing. Now it won't do anything when the start button is pushed. Is there a reset in this unit?

if it jammed then it might have damaged the motor. There is no reset other than a motor overload protector that cutspower to the motor if it gets too hot. When the motor cools down if might restart

LG DLE3777W dryer thumps when running . It sounds like there are tennis shoes in the drum.

Probable cause is the bearing on the wheel that turns the drum is worn out. They are easy to replace and should cost less than $25. for the part.
Remove the front of the dryer and turn the drum by hand, you should be able to tell which side is worn.
Be sure and unplug first.
