I put a pair of gym shoes in the dryer and now the drum is no longer turning. Can you tell me what could be the problem ? Is it a fuse or a belt off line or something ?

When you turn it on, can your still hear the motor running but the drum doesn't spin? If so, yes, the belt could have broken or slipped off the pulley.
With my dryer, putting in a pair of shoes often makes it turn off. I hear it tumble for a while and then and then I hear a squeal and then the dryer turns off.
I have seen a device that can be put inside a dryer and adjusted to fit tight between the diameter of the drum and will allow you to put shoes on it. This solves the CLUMP - CLUMP - CLUMP issue.
If you don't hear the motor, its possible there is a blown fuse. have you checked your breaker panel too?
Good luck,
- Jim
