Step three says connect to computer. I plug the green speaker prong into the green port on my sound card. I get windows sounds, but no sounds from CD or videos online. Any ideas?

Many applications (like web page videos, media players) have their own volume controls, separate from the main windows control. Since you can hear other sounds, I would guess that the volume is lowered/muted on these applications. To check this, look for a slider bar or speaker icon on the web page, or the media player. Adjust slider up, and also check for a a mute button (often a red circle over the volume control). Adjust and re-test, and you should be good to go.

There is no sound from my computer

Connect the AC power-adapter to the speakers.

Turn the speakers on, and check that they "hiss" when turned to 100% volume.

Connect the speakers to another computer, to verify that they work on at least _ONE_ computer.

Connect a different set of speakers to your computer, to verify that your computer is sending sound to the speakers.

On the computer, "unmute" the speakers.

On the computer, open the Sound Mixer application, and be sure that the sliders for "volume" are maxed-out.

Not working audio thoshiba satellite l500-017 notebook computer

  1. Verify that the lack of sound is not due to faulty speaker connections. A simple way to test it is to substitute the speaker connection with headphones and see if you get any sound.
  2. 2 Open the volume control window by clicking your "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click "Accessories," then "Entertainment," then "Volume Control." Alternatively, just click on the speaker icon that's in your System Tray.
  3. 3 Check the volume and mute settings. If any of the mute check boxes have been checked, uncheck them. If this doesn't work, read on.
  4. Perform a System Restore If Necessary
  5. 1 If the sound has been audible from your computer's speakers and is suddenly lost, you may need to perform a System Restore. Click on the " Start" button and then "All Programs."
  6. 2 Click on "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "System Restore."
  7. 3 Complete the System Restore Wizard. If this doesn't work, read on.
  8. Delete and Reinstall the Original Sound Drivers
  9. 1 Deleting and reinstalling your sound driver may resolve the problem. Your sound driver may have been corrupted or may be missing. The result of this is that the restore utility menu won't be available. For Windows XP, follow these steps.
  10. 2 Click on your "Start" button. Click on "Control Panel" and then "System." Next, click on "Hardware," then "Device Manager, then "Sound, Video and Game Controllers."
  11. 3 Click on a sound device named in the Device Manager, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. Click "OK" in the window that appears. Remove all the listed sound devices i this way EXCEPT Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers.
  12. 4 Restart your computer. Reinstall the deleted drivers using the Driver and Application Recovery CDs that came with your Windows XP system.
  13. 5 Visit your computer manufacturer's official website. Check for any updated sound driver software for your sound card. If any, download them along with the installation instructions.

is the mute button above the keyboard pressed? Are you running windows 7? Does the soundcard show up in your device manager? Also, on windows 7, the volume mixer provides separate channels for applications, rather than devices as in xp. Click the volume icon, open mixer, and check to see if the internet and other applications are muted. I use a DV6000 and this caused me trouble since this computer had a bad GPU that I fixed, which causes the ssound to stop working when it goes bad. The computer ended up being fine, I had simply forgot about the mixer.
If that doesn't work, try re-installing the sound drivers. If that doesn't work, you might have a faulty BGA (nvidia) chip, which will have to be reflown.

Hi I lost the volume in my toshiba and even using "help and support" it does not work. How can i re-install it?

Ok now you need to call up ether the sound card application or preferably the windows volume control from the bottom toolbar.

Click Open Volume Control.

A box with sliders in should appear. make sure that volume control, wave, sw synth, aux, cd player, line in
are all about half way and that none of them have ticks in the box at the bottom.

If any of those are missing click options then properties from the top left and put a tick besides any that were missing (nothing else)
Now close the slider box.

Put a normal music cd in your cd/dvd player on the computer and set it to play with windows media player.
You should now have sound out of the speakers.

Double check that EVERYTHING is ok.
If there is still no sound check the control panle for any hardware issues and rectify those with the correct drivers
