It appears the recovery partition has been removed from your hard disk. You need to obtain a Recovery CD from Toshiba. OR If you have a Windows XP Home installation CD then you can use it to reinstall Windows on your Toshiba and the product installation code will be on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.
You didn't mentioned which two wires you have problem with, so i found detailed Toshiba Satellite M45 dismantling instructions. Just scroll down (then page2, page3. ...) and find your wires and what to do with them.
Is you new hard drive lager than you old on and was the disk drive a factory replacement cause with those disks if you even change just that they will not work

If you have disassembled your toshiba unit, and you are somewhat new in electronics, you cannot see the battery similar to other PC, bcoz its battery is somewhat soldered, and the only things you migt notice is its two colored wire (black and red) attached to a round, flat, insulated (wrapped with insulation) battery.
Need some additional information first:
-Which, if any LEDs are lighting up when you try to start.
-You said you purchased another A/C adaptor, was there a reason you tried that first?
-Have you been having any problems with the battery before this happened?
-Have you tried removing the battery and tried starting with just the A/C adaptor plugged in? If yes was there any change?
CAN I MAKE A COPY FROM THE FILES ALREADY ON THE COMPUTER LIKE CREATE RESTORE OR RECOVERY DISK?
