Most inkjet printers don't actually measure the amount of ink in the cart. They estimate the amount of ink based on what you've printed and how many cleaning cycles you're run. They have to estimate "empty" well before it's empty, in case you've used more ink than they expected, so the head doesn't go dry. Also, showing empty makes you buy more ink, and that's where they make their money.
if the black cartridge is genuine and new...take it back. It is faulty.
If the cartridge is refilled or compatible...hold the STOP button for 6+ seconds to disable ink monitoring. This should clear the 'empty' error and the printer should work again.
Printers often show 'ink empty' when a remanufactured cartridge is used. Usually the printer will still print but some makes have a block that stops this. My Canon does the same but i ignore the message and it prints OK.

This happens with epson as it has a chip on the cartridge, which sometimes shows the cartridge empty even if there is some ink left on it. You can try this steps:-
1. With the printer turned on press the ink replace button, which will bring the print head to ink replacement position, pull out the cartridges one by one and cover the tip of the cartridge with some tape and shake the cartridges and reinsert it on the printer and press the ink replacement button once again, the printer will check the inks cartridges, if the inks is empty it will show the red light again, pressing the button once will bring the printer to ink replacement position with the cartridge to be replaced on the replacement position. you can also check on the printer software on the pc that which ink cartridge is emptied.

Hi there, No Cartridge will show on the display if the machine cannot recognize one of the cartridge or one of the ink is empty. To make sure about the real issue unplug the mach from the power outlet then plug it back in after 10 seconds. If the display show:"ink empty C" it means the cyan/blue needs to be replace. "ink empty M" it means the magenta/pink needs to be replace. "ink empty BK" it means that the black needs to replace. If the display shows "ink empty Y" it means that yellow needs to be replace. Even if it looks like the cartridge is full, it really needs to be replace so that the machine will work again. Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks

The "ink tank" can be compared to a garbage-basket -- excess ink from the ink-jets collects in that tank. When the garbage-basket, or the tank, is full, you must empty it. Changing the ink-cartridges (putting more food into the refrigerator) does not empty the ink-tank (garbage-basket).
If ink cartridge show red light for empty ink cartridge Just press the cartridge will come at standby those cartridge is empty ; just replace it. If not empty you want to change Press ink button ..... don't leave until your carriage unit not come at the replacement position First Black will come and next color will come and after pressing ink cartridge it initialized and it will be ready /
there is one thing that if you refill the cartriage and then use again then still ink indicator shows low ink as its' ckt is designed so.
there is no problem you can print easily. your printer will show correct ink level when you put in new cartriage.
but remember one thing that if your printer stops printing and shows message on computer that no ink in cartriage ,, then you need to reset printer counter, (this resetting process is present in your printer manual)
so no problem in printing, it shows low ink because the circuit inside it is designed soo.
so that you purchase new cartriage. (remember : you need to reset the counter , refer to manual)
