We don't have the CD so how else can we download the drive or software?

What do you mean download cd's and dvd's? You don't download them, you simply put them in the drive and play them. If you purchased a music cd or a movie dvd that you want to play or watch, then just put it in the drive. The system will recognize it and automatically open Windows Media Player for you to play it or you can open it yourself if autoplay is not active.

Exactly what is it that you are trying to do?

If you are talking about putting a blank cd or dvd into the drive to copy music or a movie to it, that's another story and will take a while to explain. You will basically need to make sure your CD/DvD drive can burn CD's or Dvd's. Then you will need some type of burning software (later versions of Window Media Player will burn).

Click Start/My Computer and look at your devices. if your DvD/CD Drive is listed look for RW which means rewritable (it can burn or copy). If it say DVDrw it can read and write dvd's. If it says CDrw it can read and write cd's. You can also look on the drive door on the computer where you would place the cd or dvd. If it says Rewritable CDrw (it can write cd's) or DvDrw (it can write dvd's). If it says ROM (read only media), that means it can Read Only and not write.

If the drive is rewritable then the software such as Media Player will allow you to go find what you want to put on the cd or dvd. You have two ways of putting things in the software to burn or write. You can copy and paste, or you can drag and drop.

Well, I can suggest you two things.
If you don't have an internal CD/DVD drive, you can purchase an external DVD drive with USB cable. This will be useful if you want to watch DVD movies, listen to audio CDs or when installing drivers or software that comes in a CD or DVD.
Or you can go to a friend who has a computer and ask him to insert the CD and email the software to you. Otherwise you can copy the content of the CD to a pen drive. You can use pen drive or email to install the camera driver to your computer.

You should have a CD that came with the computerthat has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents. Boot formthis CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to www.support.dell.com and select "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the"service tag" (serial number) of the computer. You can then download"Diagnostics" .
If you can't boot from the CD then you CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced. If the computer boots from the CD you have a software issue.

if you have another computer copy to a flash drive then install

Shouldn't need one, most CD/DVD drives are OEM, the bios should find it when you boot up.
