Question about Televison & Video

Intermittent whining, screeching noise from Samsung DLP. Replaced lamp not that long ago. Noise was there before and after lamp replacement. Happens most on start-up. Often stops after running for a while.

I have the same problem. My Samsung DLP makes whining, screeching noise at start up. Seems to lessen over time while the tv is on

I found it was the color wheel - the bearings in the wheel were going out, causing the noise. Got the color wheel replaced. Cost me ~$350 at a local repair shop.

It is most likely the color wheel or fan slipping on start up once the unit heats up the sound goes away?

I have a humming noise coming from my 5 year old samsung 50 inch dlp tv , I have replaced the lamp 6 months ago so what else couyld the noise be coming from? I have a great picture and color.

If it is a high pitched whine it is most likely the color wheel; the bearings in the wheel go bad and if you google the model number with color wheel you will find it.

The whine is the early stages of the wheel failing; when it goes out you will either have shutdown or a grinding sound.

I have a Samsung DLPTV, picture is fine. There is a "whining" noise associated with the TV the whole time its on. Stops as TV shuts down, It's about 4 years old and have not replaced lamp. Could this be...

Google your model number; I suspect it is a bad color wheel--lots of these sets have a fan like noise or even a grinding sound sometimes called a high pitched whine.

The part can be customer replaceable and YOUTube has actual video instructions for its replacement.

Just replaced the lamp and the tv turns off after about 60 seconds

First. Did you reset the lamp timer on your tv after replacing the old lamp? This is important to keep track of the life of your lamps. Dust off internally, dust tends to affect the temperature of internal parts. Do you hear any other noises? ex: buzzing, clicking, could be your ballast. If you hear any winding, whirling or screeching noise could be your color wheel.

Color wheel is going or gone out. New colorwheels are air bearing and not mechanical.

You better to check the color wheel or Lamp ballast.

Normally, the noise comes from color wheel.

If you hear a ticking and or buzzing sound as it is trying to start up then most likely the replacement lamp is bad. Take it out and reseat it one more time to see what happens. The noise you hear is the ballast attempting to fire the lamp up.

Samsung dlp

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
