Check the main computer you set up the network router with...you may need to go to the network status and tasks in control panel...click on this...then you will see a map of all the network devices connected...find the belkin router and click on it...in this window there should be a tab called wireless properties..click this...the wireless properties first page should have the wireless SSID name listed here...and if you click the security tab then the security type and network key are displayed here..You need to write down the SSID, security type, and network key and make sdure the toshiba laptop setting for the wireless network are exactly the same. There may be a link on the first page of the wireless securities saying copy to usb drive..you can use this to copy all network settings to and then transfer these settings in to the toshiba by using the network setup wizard.
check what encryption your laptop will work with, if its an older laptop then its probably only 64 bit and your router is running on 128 bit encryption, and this will give what you have connected to router but no internet connection
many customers have a problems with Toshiba laptop that no means Toshiba Laptop is not Compatible with Belkin, the first think we need to do is to know what happen with your configuration.
Windows XP?Vista?w7?Mac? so many questions
Ok actually windows make any time security package update that make also a problems with connectivity.
ok also firewall and anti virus lock the signal is we are talking wireless
Now if even using cable trough router you still haven't connection means maybe there's not connection
so we need to know what is the status of the light in your your router Green Yellow or Red
Green there is a connection
Yellow only laptop and router re connecting
Red both are not connected
if we talk about number (8) you mas need to clone first your mac address to get connected
if the light is RED reset your router and after power cycle modem and router let 3 minutes and check if light turn Green.means connected
any questions for more explanation just ask me for a remote your PC
It might not work Because your laptop should XP service pack 2 Or above You can try upgrading your operating system before throwing your router out of the door
I use a belkin wireless adaptor for connecting my PC to the wireless router of trendnet, i observed that belkin adaptor does not work with standard windows wireless networking , i downloaded a separate suite provide by belkin for the purpose and voila- even my 8 yr old son and now reconnect if connection is broken :)
It has nothing to do with the brands. I do have different peripherals of different brands and they work well.
Maybe your son's laptop is more recent than yours. When you connect the wireless adapter to your laptop, does it detect the wireless network? I remember having a similar problem on vacation. At the hotel, I could'nt connect to the wireless network. The tech support told me to adjust some settings on my laptop. He said to go to the Network connexions, right-click on the wireless connection and selection Properties. Click on Configure...And select the Advanced button. Then on the list select Power on saving Mode. Other than Max power save mode.
Check the wireless settings of your router, ssid, channel and wireless security. Set thoe information on your laptop so that it will work wirelessly with the router.
