I have many computers in our house hooked up to our netgear router... no problem, now i want to put the hardware from my old computer into a different one i got and i lost the cd and can not get online ... the computer is also far away from the router so its not like i can take it downstairs and just plug it in... please advise me as to what my options are or do i have to by a new set up for this computer?

You do not need the installation CD to install the router. The CD is just a convenience item for computer novices. Netgear does supply SETUP documentation for many of its routers that take you through the manual installation of them.

The netgear router installation will set up the internet connection during install. Download the Router driver from netgears website and install on the computer/s then your up and running. it appears you wireless card is seeing the router so just install the drivers and your set.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem. If your computer is able to go online through the modem Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router. open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP. As your computer is not wireless compatible, you can have this connected to the router itself on the wired connections and use PS3 on wireless Do NOT connect your computer to modem and also Netgear to modem. Either one of them won't work. Instead connect modem to Netgear and computer to Netgear with an ethernet cable. After this type of connection is made, try to setup the router with the CD inserted into computer.
If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work? If that works then the modem is working. Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router. You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router. You can set up the router without the CD also. It is very easy. If you have a computer wired to the router, Try this steps.
1.Open a browser and then go to http://192.168.1.1
2. Username admin and password is password
3. You should be able to access the router's utility page then and get the wireless settings of the router.
Once you get the wireless settings of the router, just connect to the name(SSID) you set up and then connect to it.
You can reset your Netgear router/wireless MR814 router to the factory settings from within the router manager. The reset procedure removes all user-configured settings and returns the router to the original factory settings.
For this reason, only reset the router if you encounter problems that can't be solved with other methods.
Step 1: Check that your Netgear router/wireless MR814 router is properly connected with your system or not. If it is OK, then press reset button on Netgear router for at least 10 seconds. The 'test' light should flash during this process.
Step 2: Now open browser and enter Netgear's IP address into the address bar. Generally, '192.168.0.1' is the Netgear router IP address but you can find specific IP address in Netgear router manual.
Step 3: Now enter your default username and password to log in to router.
Step 4: Click 'Erase' button under the 'Revert to Factory Default Settings'. This process will erase all your previous changes that have been made to the router and restore the configuration settings to factory setting. Don't interrupt the process until the process is finished.
Once the router's 'test' light has stopped blinking and the configuration page you are on has refreshed, the router has been reset.
