1. Unplug the power from the computer
2. Push the On button to release any residual power from the system
3. Open up the computer
4. Locate an empty PCI slot, should be white and around 3-4 inches long
5. Remove the shield in the back to allow the the card to be accessed when the computer is closed up

Power off the computer, take out the adapter. move it to a different PCI slot, then restart.

If that does not work:
Uninstall the Belkin driver,
Power off unit . remove adapter.
Power on and install the drivers.
Power off once more and reinstall the card.
Restart and it should work.

We have purchased a new notebook{higrade brand vista OS} to replace a packard bell using XP the XP laptop connected no problem the newone finds the belkin router but won't connect to the internet are...

Do you have a wireless security protocol enabled, and if so, what? Install a wired connection to the router (use an ehternet cable to connect your laptop's RJ-45--looks like a wide phone plug--into one of the Belkin router's network jacks). Go to the router's management page using your web browser (probably http://192.168.2.1). If you have not previously set the password in your router, simply leave the password field blank and CLICK "Submit". If you have previously password protected your Belkin router, use the known password. If you have forgotten your password... you'll need to reset your router.

Reest Router: there is usually a small hole into whiuch a pin or paper clip can be inserted for this purpose or a small button to press. Most Belkins--IIRC--have the button.

Once you are on the Belkin router's management page, look for the wireless link and set your security protocol to match what your wireless card is capable of, set the password, save and exit. Use the sasme password in configuring wireless networking in Windows.
