Alright, to go over what's going on...Trying to help a friend of mine with an issue with her RCA m4002a Opal MP3 player. It says it requires 4mb of space for profiling, then immediately shuts down. At the moment, it HAS worked before, as she's connected it to her computer before hand, and was perfectly fine. Now it gives the above error. A few notes. She is running Windows 7 Starter on a mini-laptop, and has a desktop that is running Windows XP, I presume Home Edition. First thing I looked up was a way to possibly fix it. Went onto Google, and was redirected to reinstall the firmware on the RCA unit from here : http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=192 Did as instructed, this all being on her laptop. Installation went smoothly, in terms of the software installing onto the computer. Once it loaded to start searching for the device "Operating system is not supported" popped up. "Wonderful." So with that in mind, I asked her to do the same on her desktop, since it was running XP, so we thought it might just need an older operating system. Which, it did. It starts to search for the device once it was plugged in, but kept resetting the search after 50%. I thought it was a bad driver, so I went to Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager, and there was an error with the installation of the driver. To what I am aware, there is no CD that came with it, and it runs off what Windows has available for drivers. Plug & Play. The cable itself seems to be in almost pristine condition as well, we've tried different USB slots on the desktop, showing the exact same result.

What song service supports rca opal m4002a mp3 player. napster doesn't work?

Not iTunes. Not Napster.
You could try Rhapsody's MP3 ONLY service - new!
Limewire works, but make sure you anti-virus program is up-to-date.

The key is to use Mp3 format only, and most music services have switched to WMA format.

Opal rca mp3 m4002a TROUBLE!

Disable the auto-sync option in Windows Media Player, and then delete the songs again from Windows Media Player. If auto-sync is not disabled, then those songs will never go away.

RCA Opal M4002A Need screen

I have an Opal 2GB mp3 player just like yours and I accidentaly busted the screen on it, so I e-mailed the RCA company, they e-mailed me back telling me that I voided the warranty, and I would have to send it back and pay 55 dollars to get a new one, because they don't sell the individual screens.

I hope this helps.

RCA M4018 8GB MP3 Player

Mine didn't recognize either, so what I did is go into the device manager, find the opal in the listings, double-click, disabled the device, re-enabled it, at which time it shows that there's a firmware error. I then re-installed the driver from the cd, unplugged the opal, plugged it back in, and for whatever reason, the computer then recognized the opal as a mass storage device, instead of a portable music player. The computer now sees it everytime, and all I have to do is drag and drop any files I want into the opal. Works like a charm. Hopefully RCA will provide an updated firmware program in the near future, but this might work for you for now. Good luck!
