If nothing else works, try using a usb card reader to get the pictures into the computer's hard drive.
A nice usb card reader is available in all electronics stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, RadioShack, and so on.

Powershot A470. used to be able to download pics with no prob to my computer. Got a new pc Samsung with windows 7 (RV510) but for some reason it cant download to my old pc either.. just seems its not...

Windows7 usually use x64 bit system operation, drivers which run in windows XP or Vista can be uninstallable in Windows 7 because XP and Vista use x32 bit system operation (except certain series).
See your OS from Device Manager (Windows+PauseBreak > Device Manager), 32 bit or 64 bit. Then you can download the driver compatible with your OS from here :

MacBook Pro won't recognize canon powershot SD400

Hello. You need to probably reinstall the drivers. but first you have to remove the drivers that are all ready installed. first unplug your usb cord. then to remove the drivers allready installed,, on your computer, press start, then when the box open's up, then right click on computer. another box will open up. then left click at the bottom of that box on properties. another box will open up, then click on device manager. after you click on device manager another box will open up with all your devices. look for the previous camera you had installed. it might be under imaging devices. once you locate that, then right click on it. then choose uninstall. Make sure you have your new software loaded in your cd/dvd rom drive. after it is done uninstalling, just restart your computer. at the bottom right of your screen, it should say, found new device, it will ask you from where do you want to load the new drivers for it. click on the drive that contains the software. it then will load your new drivers up. It then should communicate with your camera. Hope this helps. Ron

Windows Vista does not recognize Canon PowerShot A80

Vista requires updated drivers for most of the older cameras. Unfortunately, Canon chose not to update the drivers for many of these cameras, including the A80. BUT please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue. Just make sure that you get one that's stated capable of reading a CF card:

Canon A80

reinstall your camera software or check you system information tool. The driver maybe on your system and just needs to be reinstalled. If you don;t have your camera software, you can probably download it from the manufacturer's website.

Connection between camera and computer

What operating system are you using? Is you camera connected via USB? Have you tried using another USB port? Did you make sure to install the software before plugging in your camera?

Generally if you are running Windows 98, you will need to reboot after installing the software to even have a chance of the camera being recognized correctly.

If you are running Windows 2000, XP or Vista, the camera should be recognized and a driver installed or searched for from the CD software you installed before plugging in the camera.

Sometimes if you plug in the camera first without installing the software, the PC finds a new device with no driver. You can see this by going to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and you should see and exclamation on a device in the list. You need to remove this item and reboot your PC.

Now install the software first and when the install is done, then plug in your camera. Generally this works out pretty well.
