Maytag dryer [electric] MED9600 lights up but won't start

I have a Maytag front loading electric Dryer model MED9600 SQ0. When I attempt to start it by pressing the CONTROL START button, all the front panel lights come on correctly and I’m able to select any cycle, time, etc but when I press the START button I hear a click with the SENSING button lighting up but it does not start. All the front panel lights stay lit but the drum does not turn…no sounds, no nothing! Today I had an electrician test the 220 plug and everything is working correctly with full 220 flow. I tried RESETTING it by unplugging it for 1 min., plugged it back in, pushed the "off" button once, then push the off button again and hold it for 10 seconds but it did not resolve the issue. Can anyone help me :)
Thanks much!!

I'm very sorry but I cannot seem to locate any part named "control panel" for my Maytag frontload Dryer MED9600SQ0. Could someone pls locate the part # or URL for the part that I need to fix my dryer...please! And are you sure that this very expensive part is my problem?? I'm sure that I can't get my money back on it if its not.

Thank you very much in advance!!

Possible causes for your issue include:

Blown fuse
Timer or motor inoperative
Housing wiring not properly connected to dryer
Bad door switch
Faulty "Push to Start" switch

It would probably be best to have a professional pinpoint the exact defect.

Hi,

The easiest/fastest user action is to unplug from the mains for a considerable time (hours). This would reset the unit and revert everything to factory default. If things workout, you are good if not then your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional. This suggestion would be to your advantage in terms of quicker turn around, less effort, no "guesswork" and you get warranty. The opposite would require that you be familiar with handtools, electrical & electronics as well as knowledge of troubleshooting/diagnostic. No offense intended but trying a DIY (do-it-yourself) precludes the aforementioned.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Your motor has fried. It isn't in the Control Panel, the SENSES light wouldn't turn on if it were the CP. If you go to your closest Home Depot, ask the front desk for assistance with Dryer Motors. They will guide you through to get you the right one. They will even tell you how to install it. When you replace it with the new motor, the Dryer will work fine.

Describe your MDE5500AY maytag neptune coverProblem How do I open the cover?

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.

If you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Next remove the screws from the lint filter, then remove the top of the dryer.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.

How do you open the front of the dryer?

Unplug your dryer from the electrical first.
You would remove the electrical box from the top of the machine that holds the timer switch/start switch, etc. Be really careful that no wires come loose in the process.
Then remove the top of the machine, then the front will come off after you remove the screws holding it together.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Check spring tab behind door switch-if it's bent/out of adjustment, circuit will act like door is always open.

To confirm this, open door, set dryer to active setting, and hold in door switch; if it comes on, then it's either the spring tab, or the switch is malfunctioning
