Cooling fan I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, and the cooling fan seems to only come on when it wants to. When it does not come on, the car runs hot, and the a/c blows hot air. When in does come on, it cycles off and on very rapidly and makes the car surge to a point that at a dead stop it will make the car lunge. Any help? Thanks Karen

I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and my cooling fan never comes on, not even when the engine gets extremely hot. It would however come on when i turned the ac on. Now, if i am at a stop, the ac turns on and off and the car lurches forward, but the fan never comes on now. Someone help!

my fan doesnt come on and the car lurches and surges when at a stop sigh, it will also die if I put the switch to circulate air in the car... Ive heard that your supposed to have that on when your a/c is on...the only time the cooler cools is if Im going over 45 mph or on the free way..it doesnt need a fan to blow the cool air I guess.. Ive been told to replace the fan all together...around 57$-110.oo$ to fix......

ckeck the cooling fan relay and wires

Your problem is the Temperture Sensor located right beside the alternator.

It's the Temperture Sensor. Your car will overheat when udisng the AC because if the compressor clutch does not activate, neither will the fan motor which recieves from it.

I would deff check the relay i had a problem with my relay going out on my 04 but i just ran my fan to a togle switch so i can turn it on and off when i want it on when im in dead stop situations like traffic and also when your ac is on the fan has to be on or your ac will cut on and off to keep your car from really over heating in a hurry if your not moving, but i also run my car at the track and it helps to keep it cooler when racing down the drag strip.

Definitely check the relay. this is really easy to do as the cooling fan and the heater/blower relay are interchangeable. if the ac and heating system inside your car is actually blowing, go under the hood and switch the two relays. go back and turn on the ac/heater and see if the air is blowing. if not then buy a new relay .. $10 at most

My 02 chevy cavalier overheats without a sign of leaking coolant

Not sure I am with you on this. The cooling system is designed to run between 190 and 210 as a normal range. Above 210 and the radiator fan should start up. Anything over 230 is considered Hot.
Is the radiator fan coming on around 220 degrees ?

1999 Chevy Cavalier Z24 2.4L cooling fan inoperative

Probalby not, seeing that's what's telling your over heating. it wont be a bad idea to remove it (be carefull of hot fluid) and clean it off and put it back in. (wouldn't hurt anyways) but this problem is most likly a falty relay form the PCM to the fans. wireing might be corroed and need to be cleaned. check the fans for power and gorund with an omh meter.

Replace termostat in a 1998 chevy cavalier still run hot

Yes it does have a electric fan, mine went out on my 2003 and I just changed the electric motor itself. Autozone offered the entire fan with motor or they offered just the motor. I chose to replace the motor only because I knew the fan blades and housing was fine. I had to drop the fan down and take out the entire assembly from the bottom but overall the process was a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty.
