CD spins, but won't play

I tried all my cd's, and the motor works. My system is an mc-80 or 85. It has never been used until a few weeks ago by me. I tried to get a cd to play and i thought that maybe it was just because it was a cd-rw, but then it wouldn't play any of my cd's. Is there a way to fix this problem, as in a self repair, or would I mess the system up. EVERYTHING else works lke new.

Firstly double check that the recordable discs you have bear the label "Digital Audio" on them as per the attached picture. Secondly what happens when you go through the finialise procedure in the manual? Do you see the ?FIn--d? display when you select the finialise button? Do you see ?NO TOC? and ?REC? indicators blinking at the next step? Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Philips mcm9 system won't read any cds. It says "reading" but nothing else happens and even says that when there is no cd in slot, radio & tape are both working and cd player was working...

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

If the no disc comes even without a disc in the player you must check and see if there is a mechanical fault specially in the loading section that seems to trigger the CD mode to work.

Also check to see the main motor as it will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor. Also in some cases the central motor base can shift and so the distance to the disc can be more resulting in low detection. You can pull up the spindle to come closer.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

The CD player is about 20 years olda and has worked fine until a few weeks ago. It does not play CD's now. We sprayed it with air to dust it. It worked again. The next time we tried it does not play...

Remove the top lid, you will need to expose the laser pickup assembly, dip a Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol, then carefully clean the laser plastic lens in a circular motion, allow several minutes to dry before using, failing that you may consider a new cd player.

I works mechanically, but doesn't play the CD

try cleaning the lens first use a lint free swab and GENTLY clean the lens. don't use any liquid on this. if that doesn't work then load a disc and gently spin the disc when it lifts into load posistion. if begins to spin on it's own then replace the spindel motor. if it still does not spin, replace the optical pickup, the EF sensors inside the pickup no longer have the ability to read (see) the disc.

CD player fails to read CDs

Cd cleaning disc is not advisable to clean your laser lens.. all you have to do is manually cleaning method! open the unit go to laser lens and clean it with 100% cotton buds then rub it slightly clockwise, but careful this is sensitive parts.
