Smacking it twice worked for me.
Thanks for saving the day! For thanksgiving we decided to watch old home videos of our children when they were toddlers from roughly 10+ years ago. We were disappointed when it wouldn't load the cassettes but it would open and close when no tape inserted.
Smacking it hard twice without the cassette in, and cassette side face up WORKED! We watched three movies and were laughing so hard our stomachs hurt today!
Thanks for this tip...made ALL the difference and am now looking to convert to digital video next to preserve in case stops working again!
Pls explain what you did?

Smacking it twice REALLY works!
Just saved the day after deciding on Thanksgiving night to play some old home videos of our children when toddlers.
Thanks again! Made for a memorable night!!!
Yup - the smacking twice on the closed cassette door did the trick! Amazing!
Thanks! You just saved my hubbie $300!
LOL, it's 2021 and this still works! Smacking the tape loader side twice while closed, and no tape inside made it work. I was able to open the loader and insert a tape just fine. I thought I was going to have to get another camera just to copy off these tapes.
I didn't get it.
Pls explain me what to do?
Where to smack?
SOURCE: Message reads eject. won't eject
Ihatecanon, Tried the steps you provided above with no luck. Then decided to gently smack the camera twice on the right-top side of the tape compartment. It freaking worked the first time. Got this idea by watching Eric Cartman on South Park... No, really. I read about this in another forum. It's a quick $150 back in your pocket. Just think. You sent the camera to their tech guys and paid them 150 to SMACK-IT :)
SOURCE: Cassette Loading Problem in Canon ZR200
My Canon ZR 200 was electing all cassettes new and old alike. On FIXYA I forum I found a superb solution. That is just SRTIKE at the cassette side of the camera twice. YES I did it and it PERFECTLY OK now.
Can anyone say the actual mechanism behind this fixing?
SOURCE: Playback & Ejection Problem
Hi, You usually get an EJECT TAPE when the camcorder has found an internal problem and either the videocassette or the camera itself has developed a problem. In you case, it looks like you tape has a problem. Daniel
SOURCE: Canon MVX200 will not load dv tape
The "remove Tape" error message on Canon DV camcorders is a general message meaning something is not correct with the tape transport system. These are miniature precision mechanisms and It could be anything from dew sensors to head motor, capstan drive etc. If the cassette drawer closes OK with no tape inserted then the tape sensor/ end tape sensor is operating. With no tape inserted the head drum does not run when the drawer closes but it does with a tape present. Does the head drum start up when you load a tape or is there no noise at all? If the head runs then it is possible the capstan is not starting or is jammed. If the head does not run then the cure will be either extremely tedious and delicate or very expensive. These units do not dismantle easily so unless you have some experience with this, or are willing to take a risk, then I would not recommend it. However, without such action you may have to write-off the unit anyway. Canon's repair charge will exceed the camera's value unless it's still under warranty. Your best option would be to find a local repairer that is willing to look at it, but I wouldn't be too optimistic .To some, this error message is a major issue when deciding to buying canon dv cameras. However, they are great little cameras and treated kindly will give many hours of excellent service. Don't store the camera with tapes loaded. don't subject it to sudden temperature changes or excessive vibration. Store it in a dry protected atmosphere and refrain from taking it onto the beach (salt AND sand !!!!) when on holiday etc.
SOURCE: tape not loading
Chances are it is in need of a major cleaning. Usually by the time this happens the cleaning tape will do no good. A good internal cleaning is usually the only thing that will help it........Has it been droped? If it has then you could need repairs
