    I have the same problem.

Even my sound options are not active.

I did reinstall the drivers but for some reason it doesn't work.

It is like i do not have a sound card at all.

I have the same problem and I reinstalled the drivers too, still nothing. I agree it's like there is no sound card. Doesn't even work with headphones.

No kidding? Reinstall the drivers? That's the best advice you can give? So much for the "experts."

Has it worked in the past? Have you upgraded to Vista? Some MX models need a special driver, which I can show you how to find.

What does Device Manager say about the audio device? Assuming that you haven't muted the speakers or turned down the volume, does it work with headphones?

The issue might be due to the corrupted audio drivers or something similar.

Click start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices. Make sure it is not muted and volume is on high.
Click audio tab and under Default device is it set to SoundMAX HD Audio? if this device is not available try another device and click Apply and test. (you may need to close windows media player or whatever is playing the sound and reopen after changing default device)

You probably need to install the audio driver again.
If you don't have it, try using a driver finder program to locate it. Once installed, your audio device should be back.

Hi there.
It sounds like the driver has failed, you need to download and reinstall the drivers for the audio device.
Go here to Acer support, select which operating system you use, download the audio driver and install it.

No audio device on notebook

Cable3,

Sounds like you indeed have a problem with an audio hardware driver. Presumably the 'Audio Device on High Definition Bus' is the system detecting a device it doesn't have a driver installed for.

First question - was the sound working previously? If so, did you recently install any type of audio software not related to the sound device itself?

Please provide the exact model number of the VAIO notebook and we can point you to the correct driver and try that for starters.
