Question about Kenwood KDC-X811
My X811 has worked perfectly for years in my weekend driver. Suddenly the face rotates, but there is no display. Sometimes there is volume and sometimes there is not. When there is volume, its fixed. You cannot increase or decrease the volume. You cannot select modes or anything and none of the function keypads work. The amp pilot light comes on and all its fuses are good.
I saw a previous post about a 'ribbon cable', but it did not indicate if the unit was repaired by its replacement. Do you think a later model Kenwood will plug right in eliminating a re-wire?
Thanks in advance.

Detach the faceplate and look at the electrical contacts on the back of it for damage/dirt - you can spray it with electrical contact cleaner. Do the same to the contacts on the head unit - it sounds to me like one or more of them are a bit loose or otherwise not working properly.

SOURCE: Your KDC-X590
I have the kenwood x590. I have the lid open and the Cd mech out and looking straight down into the circuit board with the face pointed at me. Im looking at the right front corner and i see two two resistors labeled c20 and c18. To the right of those on the very edge of the board i have a row of chicklet looking things with number on top named 2r7. They are all named the same thing. Most of the number on my board starts with a C there are a few W's Q's.
Im guess the serial number on the board is j76-0169-02 x34-4150-10

Last night i got the answer from KENWOOD Support
Press and hold in the SRC button until the unit turns off. While power is OFF,
press and hold FNC and AUTO/TI buttons, and momentarily press the SRC button to
power the unit back on. Continue to hold the other buttons until the unit comes
back on completely.
I did it and it works

Just input your model number in the third search field, download the user manual, then look on page 25 for wiring connections. Hope this helps.
