Re: Sputtering when driving down the road back off...
That sounds like it could be a fuel mixture problem and is too weak. It could even be wrong spark gaps on the plugs. Check the plug gaps first. should be 25thou.

Will the bike start up without turning off? If you have to turn ignition off then on again before it will start it may be the bank angle sensor gone faulty. This will set NO error codes in memory as it is NOT a recognised fault. ECU simply thinks bike has fallen over and shuts engine down.
i would check three parts , i have seen a weak ignition coil make this happen, change fuel filter and last possibly either fuel pump or fuel pump regulator
Just a thought as you asked...sounds like a poor throttle position potentiometer ... throttle cabled to butterfly most likely and if ECU dosen't know throttle plate moved you will see this symptom . If electric throttle , can you see(hear) plate moving whilst twisting , if so measure resistance/voltage on pot. . I do not know if resistance of position sensor can be measured while twisting throttle or pushing plate (bike off , battery disconnected or ignition off)

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
Check for vacume leaks first. Rubber lines..gaskets to carbs ect. Also remove and blow out your fuel line to tank and change out filter. Hope this helps.:)
It could be a few things causeing that. Make sure the air filter is cleaned and properly oiled, check the ignition system for good spark and make sure the stator is timed properly, try a new spark plug and gap it to spec., inspect the reeds, make sure they are not broken or warped, check the compression. If everything checks out ok, it might just be a jetting or carb adjustment issue.
Where abouts in the throtle range does it "sputer" ? during acceleration ? at full throtle ? at an idle ? Do you know any history on the bike as to when the top end was last re-built ? Does it seem to smoke alot from the exhaust ? whiteish blue smoke ? brownish black smoke ? Do you notice if your coolant level goes down alot ?
