Condenser mics like the CAD GXL1200 and GXL2200 require "Phantom Power" of 48 volts to operate. They will not work without it.
The easiest way to use these mics is to buy a USB interface such as a M-Audio M-Track. There are lots of other makes and models of USB interfaces available, but not all of them can supply the 48 volts that a condenser mic needs. The EMU 0204 falls into this category. While the EMU 0204 works great with dynamic microphones that don't need 48 volts ... it does not work with the GXL1200 or GXL2400. So whatever brand and model of USB interface you choose make certain it can supply "Phantom Power" preferably at 48 volts (most of them DO supply 48 volts).
You will also need to buy at least one (better to get two) standard XLR male to female audio cables to connect the mics to the USB interface.
Once you have the cables and USB interface you connect the mic(s) to the interface, and plug the USB cable from the interface to the computer. Check to make sure that "phantom power" is turned on on the USB interface. Finally, start up your favorite audio recording software (I use Sound Studio on my iMac) and select the USB interface as the input source.
If your Audio Recorder program doesn't let you select the USB interface you may have to select it in your System Preferences. On Mac OS X you go to System Preferences - Sound - Input and select the USB interface there.
Hi,
for purposes of recording quality, I would recomend getting and external sound card. M-audio make a good range. You would need to have a +48v phantom power supply for this unit to work. The sound card you buy should have this. A Pc or laptop won't
