Go to a clear sky with a clear reception, or try reseting your GPS.

if you just happen to enter new information while driving this would sometimes freeze your GPS as a protection whilst driving

My 660 is not receiving a satellite signal. Software has been updated and unit has been completely reset. Garmin has offered to replace with lower end unit. Any hope for the 660?

Hello,

If you have preformed all the above then the GPS receiver in your unit is probably dead and you should take the replacement from garmin as the 660 is an older unit and probably out of warranty.

Garmin 660 reads as acquiring satellite and stays stuck in this screen. Reset default settings, moved around outside to get the signal.

satellite receivers seem to be doing this on cloudy days also bad line of sight to the sky. say the unit is being blocked from seeing out the window properly or is in to far from the windshield it will not have a direct line of sight with the sky. thus no signal acquisition.

these units rely on signal triangulation to track your Xiamath location it takes 4 satellites to give your exact or near exact coordinates consider that your line of sight is not the problem then is say theirs a issue with eh unit and it may be defective. but try holding it outside the car a second like out the window and see if it picks Anny satellite up. if so then line of sight is probably the issue here. good luck and thanks for using fixya service.

Garmin Nuvi 660 cannot acquire satellites

Hi I had this problem and its an antenna fault, give garmin a call and see if yours is still under warranty, if it is they will tell you to take it back to the retailor who will call garmin for a RA Number and they will replace it there and then. If your warranty has run out then call garmin to ask about repairs
Best Of Luck

Garmin 660

If you start it up and are located in the place where the pin code was set, then the unit should unlock once it acquires sufficient satellite signals.

Won't pick up satellites

It fixed my garmin Nuvi 660:
With the unit off press firmly on the upper left hand corner of the screen with the tip of your finger.

2. Press the power button. When you see the screen light up let go of the power button but continue to press on the upper left hand corner of the screen until you receive the message "Do You Really Want to Start Up In Maintenance Mode?"

3. Say Yes and then select the third Option "Clear All User Data" and then say Yes.
4. The unit will then start up and ask you to set some preferences.

5. Once the unit is on the Main Menu please sit it in a safe place outside with a clear view of the sky for about 10 minutes and let it lock on to the satellites.

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.
