pardon my lack of understanding. But if I can swap monitors on the same computer, why would it be a graphics card problem?

Hi,

Please unplug the monitor cord connecting to the CPU and plug it back again make sure it is attached firmly.Loose connection can often cause this kid of problem,if this doesn't help then the problem can be with power cord of the monitor or the monitor itself.I strongly recommend you to get it replaced since it s under warranty.

If you need anymore help let me know.

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution.

If you cannot connect the another monitor on your CPU we need to isolate the problem here, Does your monitor go to standby mode? or even the power light of the monitor is not on?? Because if the power light is on on the monitor that can be a problem with tha video card of with the LCD monitor itself...

If you have a spare video card of if your CPU has a built in video card on the mother board and can be conencted to your monitor connect it to that....

Hope that helps.........

If the computer works with another monitor then its clearly a issue in the monitor, as warranty is generally around a year.

You can have the screen replaced to a new one or repaired free contact your dealer or manufacturer warranty service.

With the monitor only 6 months old, it should still be under warranty. DO NOT open up the unit as that would void the warranty. Request warranty service or exchange.

The graphics card is not the problem. There are many causes for the screen to appear black. All of these are internal to the monitor itself. Try the warranty route first. If you don't have a warranty, then we can start looking for the actual failing parts.

Video driver problem - black screen

My Dell Inspiron 530 (running Vista) started having video problems. (After working fine for months).  It would boot and let me log in, and would display the desktop for a moment, then the desktop would refresh, the screen would go black, and my Viewsonic VG 150 LCD monitor would display an error "Out of Range".
"Out of Range" error means "I am getting a signal, but it's not a signal that I recognize so I can't display the image".
It would boot correctly in Safe Mode, and also in 640*480 resolution.  But it would not work in 1024*768 resolution (the native resolution of this LCD).
I noticed that Microsoft Update had, the night before, installed an Optional update to the Intel onboard video controller driver.  The driver was dated Feb 2008 and that is the latest from Intel, so I don't understand why it installed a new update in April 2009 (?).
I ran the Dell diagnostics on the video hardware and I did notice that in one sequence of about 15 screens that flashed quickly, two of them displayed the Out of Range error. So clearly the Intel video hardware is able to generate a mode that this monitor cannot handle.
My best guess is that something about the automatic Update of the driver is what broke this installation.

I removed the Intel driver (in Device Manager.. Display Adapters), so Vista fell back to its generic video driver, and the problem went away... I can select 1024*768 resolution and it boots fine.
I haven't yet attempted to reinstall the Intel driver (I'm just happy to have it working again).

Try manually changing your display setting to 1024 x 768 and then try this value for the refresh rate which is 60 and 75 hertz and check if that will fix your problem.

Hi,
Generally the problem is caused due bad LCD inverter cable. Kindly run the LCD diagnostics
How to Run diagnostics
1. Shut down the computer
2. Disconnect the AC adapter and Battery
3. Press the power button for 10 sec.
4. reconnect both AC adapter and battery
5. Press FN key+ power button
6. Follow the screen prompts.

If the LCD problem is shown in diagnostics your screen would have to be replaced.

Blue tint...then unresponsive...only 5 months old

You're probably lucky that this happened now. You're most likely still covered under warranty. Contact Acer support and arrange a swap. If your pc works okay with another monitor there's no point in troubleshooting further. Get that monitor switched before the warranty runs out.

tricky!! oh hi im Dyanne.. a totally unresponsive black screen can be th result of failure of th LCD or LCD inverter.( a specialized piece of electronics that energize th screen) to rule out th failure of th video display adapter or circuitry, try plugging in an external monitor..a standard pc monitor.. attached direct to th lappy. if it works, (as i susopect) th motherboard and video display are both working ok and its th LCD which is at fault. this can sometimes be repaired by a competent specialist. good luck xx

Hello, I have a viewsonic 19 inch LCD panel. When I turn it on, the screen just goes black after 3 seconds.Whats wrong?

Hi there. It's probably your backlight inverter that has gone bad. What model is it ? The inverter can be on a seperate board, or on the main board on that viewsonic LCD. Is it a VX922 ? Common problem on these..
