On my second drive, I noticed something.

U know those pins on the back that have the setttings?

    Master w/ Slave
    Slave
    Cable Select...

The one where you set that plastic thing on the pins to set it.....I noticed on mine, one of the options said "Limit drive to 32 gigs" or some number.....It was about half of the size....

Maybe thats what happened to yours....

There could be 2 things wrong 1 is that there are to many bad sectors on the harddrive to read 80g

or they sold you a 30gig hard drive

Hi there , i have an acer travelmate 6592 laptop , the original 80 gig hard drive crashed , and i dont have the recovery disc , the hidden partition wont re install either , i have bought a new 320 gig...

You cannot get the full 320Gb capacity because the BIOS can only support a maximum of 127Gb.
You only hope is a BIOS firmware upgrade that can support 320Gb. Check out the Acer WEB site to see if a BIOS upgrade will solve your problem.
OTHERWISE
Install a 127Gb hard drive in your Acer and put the 320Gb hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive because it is not affected by the BIOS limitation.

Its a 250 gig hard drive and its saying that the memory on the hard drive is a 14.9 gig hard drive. it won't allow for it to put windows 7 back on it. It says there are no drivers on the hard drive on...

This hard drive needs to be repartitioned and formatted first then you should see actual amount. You can do this when selecting the drive in windows 7 installation

Make sure the drive is listed in the BIOS matching your serial, model number, etc incase you purchased this from ebay or second hand.

Samsung 80gb hard driver looks 30 gb why ?

it may have been partitioned to be 2 seperate drive partitions. When a drive is first formatted, you can cut it up into seperate pieces.
explore your computer and add up your drives and gigs.
If not, then the Bios needs to be manually changed for that drive, but in todays modern computers this is rare.
Thanks,
James

I have a motherboard that has only has one ide conncetions

what you should do is make the 300 gig as second drive and your primary drive is the 80 gig so that you can view and back-up the contents inside it. If you going to install a new copy of Operating system that would be in the 80 gig so that you don't need to format your 300 gig and make it as second drive. Hope this could help you..Thanks..

How do you format the hard drive?

I have set up a dozen or so if these units.... so it's fairly simple (if you understand the terminology) - By the way, I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support to confirm. John at GVI /Samsung says the drive cannot exced 160 Gig or it will not recognize it period. Secondly, the drive cannot have any format or partition whatsoever. So use a partition tool and delete the partition and the DVR will initialize it and format the drive to suit it's operating system.
I have had luck repartitioning the drives in a basic FAT 32 and making sure I did NOT set the partition as active..and the DVR configured the drive properly. Good Luck!

Hardrive not showing real capacity

Sounds as if your hard drive is partitioned into 2 or more parts or was not formatted to large disk.

Can't load a 13 gig avi file onto wd drive with 90 gigs free

Typically this is because there aren't large enough fragments to load. Run defrag several times and try again. You might also run the cleanup program and remove any temporary files, temporary internet files and anything in your waste basket before you run defrag.

Please let me know how this turns out.

Splitting a 80 gig hdd into 2 sections

Hello douglasc, You will have to repartition your hard drive. I would suggest the use of an application called partition magic. It will allow you to partition your hard drive even though the OS is present on the system. It does this by first defragmenting your hard drive and the putting the unused sectors together and the used sectors together this way it makes the division of the sections easier. Now once the hard drive is defragmented it allows you to section the drive into different logical hard drives. Follow the instructions from the documentation and you will have a successful repartitioning. Thank you, Shuttle83
