Question about Fuji FinePix S700 Digital Camera

"Communication Error" when trying to upload photos

I've had my camera since December, and this is the first time this problem has happened:

After I've plugged in the USB cord into the port and turned on the camera, the white USB screen comes up for a few seconds. Then it says "Communication Error!" and a red exclamation point appears. I have NO clue what is causing this. The last time I uploaded photos was yesterday and everything was fine...can anyone help me figure this out?

Just bought my camera used from a repair shop when my Olympus Camedia C770 master board fried. Usually moving photos from camera to computer is as simple as plug in and manually drag the photos over. But the Fuji FinePix S700 says, "!COMMUNICATION ERROR" and there is no sign of it connecting.

It should be noted that I did NOT get a disc with the FinePic Viewer software. I tried downloading a driver, but still no luck. Might have to return the damn camera, this is ridiculous!

I've uploaded lots of pics and videos with my FinePix S700 since I got it in August 2008 - never had a problem until today. Now for the first time, I'm getting that "!Communication Error" message. Help!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

You can go to this website and download the files you need in your computer in order to download the pictures.

The camera comes with a CD, If you don't have this photo share softwares in your computer, you won't be able to download. Also you can take your camera xd or sd card to a store with photo service and have your pictures on a CD. From the CD you can download to the computer.

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.

This type of problem arises many times,at first they work but the more you use them the terminals tend to loosen up,even if the camera is new.So most of the time my best solution for that is to purchase a multiple memory card reader(usb 2.0).Most don't require any installer, just plug the reader to your computer and slide in any memory card you have and you will be able to upload any media you want. What I have is Ohm USB multi card reader/writer,it has been doing it's job since I got it.

Troubleshooting the camera displaying Communication Error when connected to the computer via USB. If the camera displays "Communication Error," when trying to download images the main cause for this error is that there are more than 1000 images stored on the memory card. It is recommended if there are more than 1000 images on the memory card, that you use a card reader to acquire the images, or to delete images off of the memory so that there are less than 1000 images to download from the memory card.
If this is not the case, there are not 1000 or more images on the memory card, try reconnecting the camera to abnother port on the computer, try another cable or another computer. This error can also display when connecting to a direct print printer. Please check with the printer manufacturer for more information on this error.
